Back to the Future 3 was in the old west. BTTF2 was the future.

There is no nuke launching except for airfields where airplanes take off loaded with bombs.

And yeah, Ausir, ghouls are radiation, but most were produced in the fairly unique circumstances of the Bakersfield Vault. Whether conditions similar enough could coincidentally occur elsewhere... I don't know.
