Well, SS2 was based on the Thief engine and that wasn't exactly geared for combat (with good reason) but yeah, movement feels rather float-y and spacey to me. And don't give me any bullshit about omg it's on a spaceship of course it's spacey!~@ If I can move around all wacky like that, then I should at least be able to jump a bit higher than you do in-game.

NL wrote:System Shock 1, on the other hand, is way more open to you and things are more free overall with very little in terms of scripted scenes.
Please, System Shock is the most linear game ever. Find the isotope, bring it to Whatever Bay, put it in Whatever Slot, disable the mining laser, launch the groves, go to the bridge, fight SHODAN, the end. SS1 is no less linear than SS2 in terms of game progression. SS2 has more scripted scenes, maybe.

Clunky combat...well, maybe compared to HL2 or something. Stop playing new games, they just ruin your experience of the old ones. As for not getting into the atmosphere...yikes. The only reason to play SS2 nowadays is for the atmosphere, particularly the sound. Keep at it, you might get hooked as you play. Or maybe you're just wired differently than the rest of us.

Er, ah, no. SS1 had the entire ship open to you with virtually no limits. SS2 forced you to plod through the ship level by level which was completely lame. Plus, in SS1 you could totally blow up the earth, which ruled.

So wrong in so many ways.

I recall being rather irritated by the discovery of the theft of my legs. However, it was alright, as SHODAN wouldn't be SHODAN if one were to selectively expunge the impertinence, disdain and hubris. Due sacrifice. Intrinsic. :drunk:

Alrite, tim t sht sum heatheanse up!

And I shall hand you the remote now.

The Mod Manager

Texture Upgrade pack, mainly for the environment and particle effects

Rebirth mod, lastest build

Oh, and to make this more simpler for you, after installing the 2.3 patch (which should be obligatory when you buy a game), install the Zombe Mod Manager, then rename both downloaded archive's .zip extensions to .ss2mod. Double click the newly converted .ss2mod files and they hsould be automatically added to your mod manager list.

Except for the part where the elevator to the other decks was broken? Which made up like, the first third of the game? And when those levels were opened up, you couldn't get anything accomplished without doing what you were supposed to on the earlier levels. You guys are so obsessed with non-linearity you're seeing it in places it doesn't exist.

And then it was game over. Yes, such freedom.

Was that not also in SS2, hmm? In the first game there was a broken elevator, but there was also a shitload more that took you to different levels. Might I also mention that the sheer size of each level made up for the fact that some were blocked off in the beginning. SS2's levels were tiny by comparison.
And then it was game over. Yes, such freedom.
You could kill the master in FO1 and then it was game over. SUCH FREEDOM.

I...didn't say it wasn't. I said both games were equally linear.

So what? You still have to tackle one level at a time, regardless of their size.

When did Fallout become part of this discussion? D:

Subhuman needs to get laid/raped.

After not getting into SS2 and Deus Ex, I'm torrenting Hitman Blood Money now in my quest to get really immersed in a game before summer ends. I'll keep you fellas posted. :salute:

Dude, you played for what, half an hour? Part of getting "really immersed" in a game is giving it a fair shake. Damn kids with your short attention spans.

Don't bother unless you got 1 gig of RAM. It didn't work on the minimum settings on my computer (ATI Radeon x800 XT Platinum, AMD 64 FX-53, etc) because my memory controller is broken and I'm down to 512 RAM.

Apprently there's a plot to Hitman: BM, but I didn't see it. Was fun to play while it lasted though.

I just DL'd SS2 (Thanks for the Links TheShodan), and have been playing Thief3 for a week now. Thief3 hasn't annoyed me yet, especially since i just picked up the wall climber gloves that partially fulfill my Spiderman fantasy's (now I need a hot redhead)
