of course you can, the bonuses are a bit lower in some cases, though
also there is so much munchkinizing possible, Arcanum isn't really fun anymore D:

one can get the robots at vendigroth, too. either become invisible and click on them or be fast enough. being invisible is sure fire way to get them, though. you can pick them up afterwards and use them.

I wonder if there are any schematics that are worth using. Like atoga said, most of the items can either be found or made by recruitable NPCs.
also, upping INT isn't needed either, just quaff a potion of inteligence to up INT by 10 to be able to gain schematics. Custom schematics are even cornier, if you buy books at Tarant library and have decent INT (potion) you can build any custom schematics. D:

The only problem I had with the training manuals are that they weigh like 200 stones each and you need one for each level you want to raise your skill. So you will be carrying around tons of shit and I had a hard time managing inventory space. Especially if you like to take unidentified items back to town to get them identified and then sell them, that was my main money flow. It became quite a pain in my ass and wasn't worth it.

you can still raise techie aptitude with backgrounds, being a dwarf, putting points into tech skills, etc., i'm sure if you try hard enough you can have a very gut tech aptitude without wasting points on schematics?

also, how good are the found schematics? i never really got that far with any of my tech characters to try them out.
suppose you're thinking about a plate of shrimp. suddenly somebody will say like 'plate' or 'shrimp' or 'plate of shrimp', out of the blue, no explanation.

Oi. I'm having a problem. I decided to make a shooter, and Jebus, my game is getting harder and harder. I can't get past the überwolves. I already used everything, traps, stun grenades, all that's left is some dynamite. I guess I'll be forced to lower the game's difficulty. Help me, guys.

lawl what?

NPCs are limited to first three or four things from the techtree. And using them is pain.
Also, there is no 'foundable' Vendigroth Gun or Tesla. Or Balanced Sword. or two rings which add +2 Dex each. Etc.
Serious Business.

There are several places to find balanced swords, like the cellar where Virgil is murdered for instance, also Magnus can build them.
Sebastian can make dex rings, just hire him for making them, then fire him, if you don't like him.
NPCs can make tech stuff up to lvl4.

The sword from the Isle of Despair is better, though, so it doesn't really matter, anyway.

The gun I was referring to is

Yeah, but you know, waiting 4/5 of a game to get a sword you want to be using is a bit of... same with Sebastian.

What sword from Isle of Despair?

One can shortcut TsenAng by directly going to Caladon ;)
Recruiting Sebastian at low levels could prove difficult, though, unless one has master in persuasion.
I can't really play Arcanum anymore, I tend to powergame any game if I can.

The sword is the one you get from the first or second enemy you kill in the pit, it's nameless. One also gets a nameless axe with better stats then the standard one, but the sword excels. 10-15dmg, speed 15 iirc

just kill him yourself
If you want him to get killed, just stay on the good path, after TsenAng he will leave, to get killed by some thugs in Caladon. It's just under the bar where you can trade with 2 underground dealers. You may even revive him afterwards and he will rejoin you with a new leveling scheme if you want to.
