The Galil I used in the Philippines was a piece of shit. It couldn't hit anything, jammed constantly and the magazine stuck. Of course it wasn't very well cared for, but an AK in the same condition would still have worked much better. HURRAY FOR AKS!!!!!!!

for a simple reason,AKs have enoug slop to still function when dirty.

The most effective weapon on the battlefield is also the one that's most reliable. Technically the most effective weapon ever is the rock. It never fails, it's in plentiful supply and even if you manage to break it on someones head, you can still just use part of it or grab another one off the ground. So yes, I would say that a weapon that a soldier can always rely on would be the more effective one.
