Quake IV screenshots

Post by PiP »

they are not yet in the big gaming sites (gamespy. gamespot) but I've just found them on a Czech site and I thought you might be interested to take a look (they look like Doom3 but better)

disclaimer: these are scans, but the quality is agreeable.

Looks just like Doom 3, boring. They need a new art department.

Looks like Doom 3 or the first Quake. Way too goddamn dark with red lights thrown in at random.

Although, with a team of marines fighting alongside you like Aliens, it could be sweet.

HL2 has really raised the bar. QIV has a lot to compete with.
This Doom3 expansion has a copy of the gravity gun, which is funny.

This shit is old? I mean, the screens of QIV have been out for a long time, IMO and it looks exactly like Doom3.

Bump-mapping or what this pixel hell was called is not the future.

I remember reading about Quake IV in PC Gamer or some gaming rag a while back.

And it looks like we won't be having a flashlight either.

Is it still a multiplayer oriented game like UT and Q3 or is it some shitty Doom3 clone?

Aren't those the same player models - body wise, at least - as the DOOM 3 marines?

EDIT - Also the human's heads are way too angular for how realistic their face textures and eyes look.

These are using the same engine too. But they don't have to look like the same shit.

Kash, That HL mod was made with the same engine, yes, but it was also made several years after the original HL. Take a look at TFC with the old models. It's about on par with Half Life because it was developed roughly alongside Half Life in the same way that Quake IV was being developed at the same time as DOOM3.

I know, but I was just arguing against that games made with the same engine couldn't look same. They're just lazy and greedy, that's why Quake 4 looks exactly like Doom 3 - they didn't ask extra money for TFC, it came as a bonus to all HL owners. Quake 4's a completely new game.

My point is that Natural Selection looks a lot better than Half Life because by then, the engine and technology had progressed quite a bit. But Quake IV is being made around the same time as DOOM3 and with the same target computers in mind. That's why it'll technically look much the same. If stylistically they're identical, then that's lazy and terrible, but it's the same engine and about the same time so yeah, they're gonna be similar.

Well I could keep going on and on about this (like how HL2 and Vampire: Bloodlines don't look identical, even though they were developed roughly at the same time), but you do have a point. It's been well taken.
