Alright played haven't beat it yet. It is ok but so far it is kind of lacking and the characters seem like rehash from every other shooter game I have played. Don't get me wrong Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction is entertaining but once you get past the first few missions it gets kind of lame. I am just glad that I didn't run out and buy it.

I heard you can blow up pretty much anything like buildings and such?

except trees

It's meant to be pretty good, like you can do anything. Like wow I can snipe this guy on top of this hill or carpet-bomb him or go and kill him and all his guys with my gun or run him over in my tank. And you can play as han solo.

This game looks absolutely nothing like JA2.

Does it even play like JA2?

The fact that it has mercenaries in it does not qualify it as a JA2-like game.

As far as I understand it's a third person action/somethingorother. If this is true it is most certainly != JA2.

You're getting my hopes up about JA2 style games. Stop that shit right now.

Taken from the site: "Mercenaries is a revolutionary, 3rd person action-shooter game set in the near future..." :hahano: :hahano: :hahano:

Mercenaries will give gamers the opportunity to live out their action movie fantasies with its explosive combat and non-linear gameplay set in massive interactive environments. If you can see it -- you can steal it, use it or blow it up. Players can demonstrate their creativity in the hunt for enemy combatants using more than 30 real-world military weapons. Gamers will be able to assume the role of one of three different Mercenaries and will have the opportunity to call in air strikes and pilot more than 20 authentic ground and air vehicles including helicopters, trucks and tanks. Players can attract attention from embedded journalists in the game as they work with (and against) sparring international factions to secure all 52 targets, represented by a deck of playing cards. Mercenaries will be able to purchase additional weapons and vehicles with the money earned from each capture.
I've seen commercials for it....It doesn't look like a game that would interest me....But after reading about it, it actually does interest me. I'm going to have to find a good review site or two.

I think I will wait for an official megatron review before I jump on this one, plus I still have games to finish,

The non linear bit interests me.

Maybe similar in general to a game like splinter cell only without the rigid adherence to a storyline/puzzles, so I can fuck off and achieve objectives however I want.

I got it; it's pretty fun and some of the battles are pretty neat with the ability to hijack anything. That sounds lamer then it actually is. The games actually pretty well animated, especially the hijack animations, and atleast 1 of the main characters has a pretty interesting personality (I haven't played as the other one). Still it's fun to shoot up a jeep driver and then the machine gunner on a tank, run up the tank and grenade the crew and then shoot down a hind with the tank.

The AI can be kinda dumb at times, but they'll give you a challenge if they're in a tank. It depends on your approach ofcourse and what support options you use. Carpet Bombing the shit out of targets is well.....fun. The large variety of airstrikes you can use is actually pretty good and theres 3 or 4 differant methods of targeting that I know of. (Satellite, Smoke, Laser)

Most everythings destructable, buildings, vehicles, fences, etc. Trees are the only thing that can't be destroyed as Megatron mentioned, which is kinda lame, but oh well. You can still run over anything with tanks.

It's a pretty fun game if you're in the mind frameset, but don't expect some uber great game that'll redefine the genre of action. The music needs some work, I would've liked something like a radio. The biggest complaint I can think of besides the AI is this is a game that begs for multiplayer.

what version do you have and does the fog get real bad or is it okay?

I have the PS2 and yea, the draw distance isn't too great. You can see fairly far, but not as far as I'd like unless I use binoculars or a sniper rifle.

That's the point of the binoculars and the scope I think.

To see 50 feet ahead of me? To my understanding scopes and binoculars were used to see further then the human eye can see or get a better view, not to pierce through fog.

The fog just looks korean to me though, so maybe it fits.

Depends on the day I suppose. I've seen really clear days in Korea, but days that resemble the games draw distance aren't far fetched I suppose.
