How do you give NPCs items? Can you?

How do you give NPCs items? Can you?

Post by wilyliam »

Greetings! (First Post!)

Recently, I got "reinterested" in Fallout - I never actually played Fallout I before, only Fallout II - but now I'm seriously enjoying the first game. What I can't figure out is how to give items to NPCs? I got Ian and Tycho fighting with me, but they get killed constantly because they have crap for armor and not particularly exciting weapons - at first, they were helpful because I didn't have that much stuff either, and the extra hands were a good thing, but now I'm fighting with combat armor and Ian still just has a leather jacket - he's getting CRUSHED!

Am I missing something obvious? I couldn't even find it in the manual?

Thanks for reading!

You have to steal or plant items from/on your NPCs in Fallout. (Use your steal skill).

It's been a while but you can go to an option in the dialogue tree or click on barter, no, I think that's it... anyway, choose what you want and press sell or whatever, that just transfers the stuff across.

Theeeeen go into the battle options or whatever and press equip best armour.

Feeling in the dark there (again) but that's close anyway.

You do mean NPC party members, right?

You can't change an NPC's armor in Fallout 1.
suppose you're thinking about a plate of shrimp. suddenly somebody will say like 'plate' or 'shrimp' or 'plate of shrimp', out of the blue, no explanation.

The only thing you can alter with your NPC's equip for Fallout 1, is their weapon, and all of them can only use certain ones.

Ian can only use the small and big pistols/SMGs.
Tycho can only use Rifles
Katja can only use small pistols (maybe big pistols too, not sure)

and yes, I've omitted melee weapons. Your group can actually fair pretty well later in the game, as long as they don't get picked on by a mutant or a deathclaw.

You can barter with your NPC in FO1 but they arent just handing stuff to you, they actually want to exchange for money or whatever. Even though you can give them freebies like IAN who always takes my shit but asks for money when I want his. Just using steal is the best way.

I suggest getting a bomb, arming it and then run towards the enemy while you carry it, works for the rest of your kin. Good to see the people of Iraq celebrate their newfound freedom by asking questions about Fallout. Please stop bombing the troops though, KTHXBYE.
