HHGttG Review
<strong>[Film & TV -> Review]</strong> - More info on <a href="http://wikipocalypse.duckandcover.cx/in ... ?title=The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy">Film & TV: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy</a>
<strong>Quint</strong>,
from <a href="http://aint-it-cool-news.com/">AICN</a>, has
seen and reviewed a test screening for <a href="http://aint-it-cool-news.com/">The Hitchhiker's Guide to the
Galaxy</a>.
<blockquote><em>If it should
happen that I sit down with my bucket of popcorn and super-mega huge
Coke next May and see a HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY minus the
romance I will be the happiest of all campers. No matter what, though,
if they released the movie as I saw it, warts and all, it'd still be a
great adaptation.
Some final thoughts... The Vogons rule. Moriarty stole my "best
animatronics since Audrey II" line, but it's true. Fantastic work. John
Malkovich is creepy and cool as Humma Kavula, the new character created
by Adams specifically for a movie before he passed away... The nod to
Adams himself is nice... Slartibartfast's tour through the planet
production plant is gorgeous... Deep Thought looks awesome... The movie
looks like 100 million bucks, though I believe it cost about half
that... Did I mention The Guide rules?
</em></blockquote>So he basically likes it a
lot.  Except the love connections.  Those apparently
don't work.  Oh well.  I think it's a very good sign
that all of these reviews are praising the adaptation's faithfulness to
the text.  Fans are fans because of the books (although there
was apparently a TV miniseries that no one really liked).
Anway, I'll leave you with this last tidbit from the interview, just
cause I thought it was cool.
<blockquote><em>The
film opens with home video footage of places like Seaworld and Marine
World, of the dolphins doing their thing, jumping, swimming... Then
there's the opening song... "So Long and Thanks For All the Fish"
followed by an explanation straight from the original text about the
dolphins trying to warn the humans of their impending doom before
taking off themselves.
It's perfect.
</em></blockquote>You can read the rest of the review <a href="http://aint-it-cool-news.com/display.cg ... 1">here</a>.

"All of these reviews"? Which others are there?
And I've said it before, I'll say it again: Harry Knowles is a moron with no taste. He hypes everything, everything, before it's released and we all buy it. Just because he's the first to review something doesn't mean he's a good authority.
I don't know who this "Quint" is, but you can bet his dick is in Harry's mouth, so don't trust him, either.

Re: HHGttG Review
You mean the British mini-series that came out in the mid-80s? My understanding at the time was that it was a bit of a hit.although there was apparently a TV miniseries that no one really liked
Even now, its a cult favourite among those of us that were old enough to remember it when it first aired. (I'm talking about the Baker-era Doctor Who generation I guess).
It even got followed up by a "making of" that got good ratings.

Shows like Dr Who had crap zero-budget special effects, but had a bizarre quirkiness that added to the atmosphere...perhaps due to already being keyed into that kind of show-making we were much more appreciative of what the HHGttG mini-series accomplished. And more forgiving of the low budgetInsane-Lark wrote:Then again I AM a Baker era Whoite too. Hrmmm disturbing.

In fact, I'd rather see something that is compromised by lack of budget than something that is compromised by the Hollywood machine. But Im wierd.

Yes, of courseS4ur0n27 wrote:There's still a point in low budget you don't wanna reach.

And that level differs depending on the type of film you are making.
Bad Taste is fine as it is, and thats very low budget. But if Peter Jackson had made LOTR with that budget...well, it would have bee amusing to say the least.
Actually, the more I think of it, the more I would like to see that...LOTR - WITH LESS MULLAH BUT MORE SPLATTER.
Yep, sounds like a winna...
