Troika's PA game video clip

In classic Van Buren style, now that the game is probably not going to
get a release, material starts leaking out. You can view a video clip (49 MB) of Troika's PA game engine over at NMA. I really don't have much to say on it, actually.
Edit by King of Creation: You can now also download the clip from our server.

The engine does look pretty nice. Great shadow effects. The PC runs kind of laggy, though. Wouldn't mind Fallout 3 like that at all, however. And it just lifts my spirits to see the first to iso perspective switch in action. Makes me feel that not only CAN Bethesda do it, but SHOULD.

Thumbs up on a game that will never be released, because your company's dead on account of you guys not coding things well.Pope_Viper wrote:Yeah, considering it's a "tech demo", it seems pretty solid, or at least this one area does.
Thumbs up Troika.

It was very flashy, looked real good. But to what end?
Just because the engine is purdy doesn't mean the game would have been any good.
I do like the inclusion of the first person camera, though. I think an option for one in Fallout 3 wouldn't be too bad, just so long as it wasn't a) the default mode of play and b) wasn't designed to be played from that view.

Granted, it doesn't show that it would have been "good" but it does show that they were trying to give that Fallout "feel" to those who wanted it, as well as the FP view to those who wanted that.
Hopefully Beth will take some clues, although I don't know if the engine they're planning can handle it.
I'm doubtful...

Except for the growing shadows and the post-apocalyptic theme it looked like NWN to me, especially when the view switched to first person (what with the visible 'outside of area' void). The jerky motions when the camera was turning didn't impress me at all, and I would've expected smoother camera movements from a demo that's supposed to show off the tech.
