Fan Made FOOL

[Game -> Update] - More info on Game: Fan Made FOOL

Phil from <a href="http://www.vaultnet.net/snipsnap/space/ ... aultnet posted a very detailed explanation today, regarding the rumors of Wednesdays News Post, The Real FOOL?. As it turns out, Phil along with others have been silently working for the past 4 years on their version of FOOL. It's quite a massive project from the looks of it and they've made a lot of headway as well. According to Phil, it's not going to be a 3D eye piece, but rather a massive game world centered on the original Fallout PnP. Here's a good example of the thought that has gone into this project...

"Let me give you an example from our faq:
suppose you're living in a small town, inhabited by a couple of farmers, a mayor, some merchants and a guard. There is a raider town nearby. Now, there may be several high-leveled thugs over there that act as leader. The AI may determine that they want more money (high greed level), and prepares a an attack on your peaceful village. The AI posts an event at the location, explaining its future actions. One of the game masters picks it up, and decides to take control of a raider. The GM orders the npc to travel to your town, and warn the mayor. Now, it's up to the mayor to take action. What will he do ? Will he hire mercs to defend the village ? Will he order his farmers to arm themselves ? If so, do his merchants have enough weapons in stock, or would they have to send an order to a mjor city to order stock ? And will it arrive in time ?"

Quite frankly, that sounds very appealing to me personally. As shown with Arcanum, you can have a massive and deeply moving world that draws a player in, without having tons of visuals (yes, even in today's world)... In fact, more often than not, you end up with a better game if the programmers concentrate on the programming, instead of the graphics. What does PnP mean?
There are no 'knowns'. There are thing we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say there are things that we now know we don't know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we don't know we don't know. So when we do the best we can and we pull all this information together, and we then say well that's basically what we see as the situation, that is really only the known knowns and the known unknowns. And each year, we discover a few more of those unknown unknowns.

PnP stands for Pen & Paper - it was a special version of the fallout rules to play it in table top rpg's.

Take a look at the PnP post from a couple of weeks ago, you can download the fallout PnP Guide 2.0 + errata - brilliant stuff.

Naah, you're mixing the two up, it's the other one. The other Phil has the squint and the bad leg, his hair's a slightly lighter shade too.
