Like some of you, I have a very widespread taste of music, from classical to metal. This thread is dedicated to classical.
I'm learning Toccata Fugue in D minor, it's quite a challenge

Learning? Is there an instrument involved?

Yes, a piano.

I like Rachmaninnov a lot. Have you been playing the piano long, Artkill?

I have redneck taste in classical music, the soundtracks to Conan and the Gary Oldman Dracula movie, Mussorgsky... I find the classical section in record stores a little overwhelming.

I have been playing piano for a few months short of 2 years, and guitar for about 6 months. I've been singing all my life pretty much.

I recently played the Arutunian Concerto for a recital. That thing sure as hell is a chop buster, but I sounded kickass.

I've been playing piano since I was about 8, though some people here would call that into question
Still, that's the only instrument I play. I tried to learn guitar, and bought an electric one at one point, but didn't get far and gave up in frustration. I'm too self conscious to sing, I think.

Hehehe, yea i haven't been playing too long but I've been told I have an incredible learning curve.
And I guess I like to sing because I grew up doing it, so I'm not that nervous when it comes to large crowds.

How the hell do you consider Mussorgsky to be "redneck classical"? In fact, what the hell is "redneck classical" anyway?

Wagner, Beethoven and the Conan soundtrack(and the movie, its actually more important then the soundtrack) is ALL you need.

Just don't know much about classical music so I thought seeing as I'd heard and listen to him alongside my soundtracks it was like recommending Busted as a contemporary masterpiece.

I'm a big Haydn fan, he normally has some good pieces.

Tchaikovsky for the win.

For once I agree with subhuman. Have you heard his "String Sextet in D minor"? If you like Tchaikovsky, then make sure you hear that piece. Also his "Symphony #4" in particular is fantastic. The third movement is entirely pizzicato, meaning the string players pluck their instruments throughout the whole movement. And of course the popularity of his ballet works speaks for itself.
