Jagged Alliance goes real time - what not to do, Bethesda
<strong>[Game -> Update]</strong> - More info on <a href="http://wikipocalypse.duckandcover.cx/in ... tle=Jagged Alliance 3D">Game: Jagged Alliance 3D</a> | More info on <a href="http://wikipocalypse.duckandcover.cx/in ... title=Mist Land South">Company: Mist Land South</a>
<p>This isn't strictly to do with Fallout, but I thought since <em>Jagged Alliance</em>'s
turn-based combat is often compared to that in <em>Fallout 1</em> and <em>2</em>, this
was newsworthy. It seems that in a cash-in-quick move, the latest Jagged
Alliance game, <em>Jagged Alliance 3D</em> (which is being developed by <a href="http://www.mistgames.ru/eng/main.shtml" target="_self">Mist Land South</a> who've made some pretty bad games in the past, like <span class="postbody"><a href="http://www.polgame.com/eng/" target="_self">COPS 2170: The Power of Law</a>)</span>, is going to be real-time-with-pause.
Straight from the <a target="_self" href="http://www.bluesnews.com/cgi-bin/board. ... 136">press release</a>:</p>

3. Optimized tree rendering system
4. SSE and HT support
5. Many-storied buildings

1. Recognizable charismatic persons (the game uses mercenaries from previous JA titles)
2. Thrilling campaign with a lot of various missions

skin color, unique heads, unique hairs, and other details)
15. 3 tile sets, which are used to create buildings (town, country, military)
16. More than 100 large unique objects for levels (from cruiser to tub, from hangar to toilet)

<p>Wasn't Jagged Alliance all about the unique combat? Oh
well. I won't be buying it, and I can't see the game selling with what
is a pretty big sellout, especially for a game founded on its
turn-based combat. Note to Bethesda: please don't do this to Fallout 3.<em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em><em>

Woah! Revolutionary!!wrote: 7. Various mission objectives
1. Destroy all enemies
2. Destroy specific enemies
That reminds me of the game which it's PR marketed as the MMORPG with hundreds of thousands of trees.wrote:13. 12 unique enemies' models
17. More than 40 kinds of flora
18. More than 100 kinds of furniture
It's kind of unbalanced.
I'm still amazed to see game developpers still forget that there's is no use for a game with beautiful graphic but unplayable gameplay.

EDIT: A Strategy First rep says the article is wrong and that JA3D and JA3 are both going to be turn-based.

"Wow, what is that again?
I often said that JA is a turn based game and that there is no plan right now to turn out a real-time JA game. Will there ever be one? Maybe but not with 3D and not with 3.
Now, if everybody keep on insisting that it should be real-time, perhaps I could change my mind"

Just look at all of Bethesda's games. They're all First person or third person camera chase. There's no reason to believe they'll make their first topdown game or that it will be good if they do. Fallout 3 will be RT, in my opinion, but it still could be good. I am a turn based Fallout purist, but it's really up to the fans now to keep the old Fallout alive.
Another big part of JA2 is the free-form nature. It's not mission based.
Go where you want and fight who you want on your way to the ultimate objective. There's a whole country full of interesting locations.
The FOT way is not the way to go. It will not be JA if its really mission-based and you just get dropped into another new map every time.

Next they'll mention their disposal of the simple economic factors of the game(s), citing greater accessibility or some such rot.
