Fossil's "PIPBoy-2005" hits the streets

Post by ApTyp »

[Company -> Article]

As everyone knows, Fallout world physics don't quite work the same
as they do in our world. For example, it's practically impossible to
make a useful PDA even with the most advanced vacuum tube technology
we've developed, while Fallout's PIPBoy-2000 is not only portable, it's
actually wrist-worn!

Until recently, there was no real-world analog to PIPBoy-2000, but things have certainly changed with the release of Fossil's FX2008 Wrist PDA!
Sure, it's one big-ass mother, the screen is tiny and barely legible,
backlight feature sucks, and there is no backup data storage in case of
power outage (read the Geek.com review),
but hey tell me it's not the coolest thing ever! Life just keeps
getting more and more Fallout-y, and there's no stopping it now! OK, I'll shut up now...

Oh yeah, and it's only $250 American Dollars.

I have not had a wrist watch or wrist-anything for that matter on me for ... uh... 6 years... I think if not more... But this changes everything, I will have to seriously consider purchasing one in the near future. Imagine the novelty value this item will hve in 30-40 years.

And it has a nice metallic finnish

Kind of reminds me of that wrist-thing they gave to Snake Plisken in the Escape form bla bla-movies... or Predator's wrist-pda!
There are no 'knowns'. There are thing we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say there are things that we now know we don't know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we don't know we don't know. So when we do the best we can and we pull all this information together, and we then say well that's basically what we see as the situation, that is really only the known knowns and the known unknowns. And each year, we discover a few more of those unknown unknowns.

No. It always felt as if I was wearing handcuffs when I had a watch... always hurrying somewhere - running around... Even now, just reminiscing about that period in my life brings about great anxiety and emotional pain... the horror! The horror!

If you are wearing a watch now, I suggest you try going a couple of days without it. It might feel strange at first but then you will become quite comfortable and more free..

I see nothing strange in that.
I havent had a watch since fifth grade or summit when one had one of those nifty plastic digital ones.
And, after all, time isnt that reliable.

Well, I wear a plastic watch I bought for $20 a few years ago. I even changed the wristband on it when it broke because I like them so much. They're very light and barely noticable (unlike the unreliable metallic crap), you don't have to change the batteries for 2 years, and it's just really handy. I love my watch <3

That is what I used to think before my awakening...

I've got a solar powered watch..no battery. It's about 4 years old now and keeps perfect time, and it has 3 other dials on it which I've never bothered to find out what they do.

What about Microvalve Technology?
The pip boy seemed to have kind of limited functionality...
I bet we could build that now with m-valves.
I always pictured the pip-boy as being more like a bracer than
a wristwatch.
