Nevada test site satellite photos

Post by ApTyp »

[Community -> Images]

As you all know, southern Nevada has been a nuclear weapons testing
site for United States government since 1950. The total number of tests
conducted is mind-numbing 928, about 800 of them being discrete
underground explosions, and about 97 being atmospheric tests.

We have been dicking around with Google Maps lately, and came upon
the satellite photos of the Nevada testing site (which looks more like
swiss cheese from above). Thanks to Artkill for bringing it to our
attention.

And this here is the legendary Sedan Crater, the monster 320 feet deep and 1280 feet in diameter.

Potentially hundreds of people who read the front page but aren't registered in the forums, maybe.
How appropriate. You fight like a cow.

You mean there are some people on the interweb who don't read DAC's forums? I've heard crazy stories before, but come on...

There is no internet outside. It's mere legend, I tell you! Next you'll start on that old one about the firey ball in the sky...

The last jump I made with the Army was into White Sands NM, in the Almagordo missle range, near the Trinity test site... That whole area is like 1 giant scrap heap... everywhere you walk, you'll find caseings, shrapnel, duds and shit... Really is a true wasteland. Course, its kinda funny though because you'll have spots that are marked off for Indian artifacts/camp grounds and stuff... Didn't see any ghosts though.

Google Maps doesn't have a good photo of White Sands. Besides, there'd be nothing visibly interesting there.

What I don't get is how you can see Area 51 but they blurred out the Capitol Building in DC and faked the two buildings next to the White House.

Nice work finding that.. Interesting. Has anyone noticed the apparent 'cracking' in the ground in many of the craters? That's something I've not heard of before. It looks like the ground has shattered like glass.

I don't think anyone reads the DAC main page, judging by the fact that about 80 people have responded to the poll (which has been up for how long?)
suppose you're thinking about a plate of shrimp. suddenly somebody will say like 'plate' or 'shrimp' or 'plate of shrimp', out of the blue, no explanation.

Could be that it is glass. Superheated sand turns to glass. It could also just be erosion, them craters are basically giant ponds so when it rains the water drains into the craters, cutting out those cracks. Niffty stuff though. Kind of pisses me off that hey blur all sorts of shit out though, like New York City, but Seattle is clear as day, I can zoom all the way into there, but not NYC.

Zoom in on one of the craters, any will do, they all have deep gouges in the sides of them.

Cracks in the ground? Yeah, from the desert heat... Nothing more. Besides, those were underground blasts, they're meant to contain the blast, so I doubt the sand above the blast would have turned to glass any ways. Even if it did, the glass would have been covered by sand long ago. That whole part of the country basically looks like that after a rain... like scales... hehe, or inverted egg crates from the dunes of sage brush.

It was the aliens that did it. If only you'd wear your tin foil hats, you'd know this already.

Well, I view the aliens as less of an immediate threat, so I wear my rubber nipple hat, which prevents the swamp creatures from sucking my brains out... thank god they dont have teeth!

97 of the almost-1000 were atmospheric tests, correct? I don't see 800 craters, I see a number closer to 97, leading me to believe the marks we see there are all surface craters from blasts aboveground? I'm not 100% about that much sheer area forming a thick glass-like crust, though it's a fine theory.
