HHGG poll
I saw it tonight and I liked it for the most part but wish certain elements from the books/radio plays had been included. I won't mention the specifics for the benefit of those who haven't seen it.

He knew it'd be happening. He wrote about it in The Salmon of Doubt.Spazmo wrote:Just saw it. It sucked horribly. Douglas Adams is spinning in his grave so fast he provides a solution to the world's alternate energy needs.
I'm going to give it a try when it reaches Israel. It doesn't appear to be that shitty.

Let's put it this way -- the TV show was better, and THAT was pretty crappy. The best of HHGTG is the BBC radio show, followed closely by the first 3 books.
I did like the Guide entries, and I was glad they got Gag Halfrunt's line "Zaphod's just zis guy, you know?" in there. For some reason that line always cracked me up, ever since I first heard it said on the radio show in 1980 or so. And some of the improbability effects were funny, although I was disappointed that they left out "Ford, you're turning into a penguin. Stop it."
But they changed far, far too much, and I hated that they made Zaphod a COMPLETE IDIOT. Zaphod's supposed to be the coolest guy in the galaxy, not a moron. The pacing was horrible, too -- so much so that much of the movie was actually BORING. And what was up with that zany cartoon music? Adams' humor wasn't about silliness, it was about absurdity and bizarre existential conundrums. This movie seemed like some Monty Python fans read the first book, completely missed the point, and the result is a ham-fisted live action Looney Toons cartoon.

Meh, you guys are all too fucking critical. You show me a good book that was ever turned into a flawless movie copy of it.
I didn't mind it much even though one of the only parts in the movie that made me laugh was when they were all turned into yarn and Dent threw up.

I honestly didn't think it was that bad.Spazmo wrote:Even if there were no good book to move adaptations, that wouldn't be an excuse to make a shitty movie like this one.Mandalorian FaLLouT GoD wrote:Meh, you guys are all too fucking critical. But, of course, I didn't walk into it expecting either the best movie or the worst movie either.
I'd be a Canadian nickle you bastards tainted your view on more than just this movie by assuming it should be the best movie ever or you will hate it.

The Green Mile, by Stephen King. You show me a good book that was ever turned into a flawless movie copy of it.
It kept all the good stuff, excluded the trivial and boring stuff, and the actors were superb.
But then again, if you don't like The Green Mile, then it doesn't matter..
