Prey - Gotta see this..

We all thought Duke Nukem forever was dead, right?...

Well, they thought up something else instead. Human Head Studios is making this thing, and 3D-Realms is producing it, and *FUCK* me if it doesn't look... erm...

Well I can't describe it. I'd say it's a 3D-shooter, but from thereon out, I'm fucking lost, go see the trailer for yourself:

http://www.gametrailers.com/player.php?id=6393&type=wmv

If that didn't work, then use the one below:

http://www.gametrailers.com/top20.php

And find prey. Not the 200 something MB vid, but a 3MB or so.. it's longer than you think btw..

Jeez, I never thought I'd be amazed by a trailer again the way I was by this one..

If you did some research you would find that this game was originally announced back in '97 to compete with Quake. 3d Realms has vaporware issues, real bad.

The game looks pretty cool. Was this trailer shown at E3, because if it was it should of gotten a better reception?

Looks suck-tastic.

Well besides the fact that in the core it's just another 3D-shooter, it looks fairly interesting. The first 30 secs of that trailer were enough to catch my attention: wtf? It seems that gravity changes depending on your position and you can switch between characters at any time, which causes the screen go gray and the enviroment to change?

I think that was just one of those RAGE attacks were you can save up then become superman with 1 shot kills, for a short amount of time.

Apparently when you die, instead of having to load you go into some alternate universe where you kill things until you've built up enough energy to come back to life again.

I donno sounds cool I guess.

The old 96-98 version looked better, with its photo-textures, hyper-realism ala The Room and portal-tech coded as the engine basis, instead of like a 'funky' addon to the bsp-tree D3, as it is now.
Old-style PrEditor looked awesome as well.

I'd say modding is the wow with this one, as there's alot you can achieve with dynamic room structures.

Afai understood the grey-thing, is that your soul leaves its body, enabling you to walk through doors and certain walls.. it's a puzzle element. Like the giant cube which you have to "fill" up, also shown in the trailer.

SuperH, I read about the vaporware too somewhere, but I sure as hell never heard about it at the time!

Looks pretty neat, 'though I'm a bit skeptical to the whole "spiritual plane"/soul thingy.. And what's up with the Native American?

When Prey surfaced, the main competition was Q1 & Q2, Unreal and that lot; games with virtually no story. The innovation with Prey back then, would have been 1) The tech obviously 2) A character with some cultural background, moral dilemmas and some heart, gut, etc.

As far as I understood it back then, 3drealms hit the jackpot with Duke and his one-liners, and decided to cash in on even deeper character model; so he'd have his ancestral heritage, indian-voodoo magic whatever, goals motivated by other feelings than frag and he'd probably quip "How?" whenever you'd use a static object. While it would be refreshing back then ( in contrast to being "Grunt" ), I suspect it will come off as corny in the YEAR 2005!

Most likely. The best thing for them to do, would be to introduce the grunt again maybe.

Or?

Any other suggestions?

I'm pretty confused myself, because the only characters I really liked were JC Denton(I shoot you in ze anus!), duke nukem, Sam Serious Stone, and I liked the Commando from Renegade...

But that's mainly it, I don't remember any other FPS' with chars who were "cool" or anything...

Ahhh yes... Caleb...

I never actually played the original Blood, only the sequal... and then without any sequences...

I wish I could get my hands on both again..

The alternate universe thing when you die in Prey sounds similar to Soul Reaver.
