Expect Some Downtime
[ Community -> Update ]

Most of you are probably aware of the request put out to the community for donations for our server upgrade. Contrary to popular belief, DAC was able to not only meet, but exceed the amount of donations that we had hoped for. As such, Taluntain will be performing a server upgrade in the very near future, which will result in some downtime for Duck and Cover. Here's what he had to say over at Sorcerer's Place:

Either today or tomorrow (hopefully not later, but I
have no exact date/time yet), Sorcerer's Place and all our hosted sites
will go down for about 30 minutes up to 1 hour. During this window, the
sites will be completely inaccessible. The reason for the downtime will
be a swap of the server's old CPU with a shiny new one, nearly 1Ghz
faster.
Though we've never really had any major problems with
the speed of the server, the upgrade is a sensible investment for the
future, and it will make our already fast sites even faster.
If I manage to get any more exact details on when this upgrade is going to happen, I will update this news post.
Edit:
All I could find out is that it's going to happen at some point in the
next 5 days, during the time period of least activity here (midnight to
5am CEST).

There you have it. Thank you for all your donations folks. It was a great show of support from the DAC community. We really appreciate it.

Each of the sites raised $40 via PayPal (I've spelled this out both on Codex and DAC - pay attention). DAC raised $45. After the last donation for DAC came in via PayPal, one guy also said he made a wire transfer donation, but that takes up to a week to show on my end. I told him he can either recall the transfer if he can (as we got enough money by then), or I can just hold it for safekeeping until the next time donations for DAC are needed. Or just forward it to Teatime. But as he hasn't replied (yet), I don't know if he cancelled the transfer or not.
Oh, and, as always, I predict you're wrong, Poopy.

so every site raised exactly 40 bucks? Did you think I got confused if all the sites made the goal or not? Or maybe I was asking how much money each site made.Taluntain wrote:Each of the sites raised $40 via PayPal (I've spelled this out both on Codex and DAC - pay attention). DAC raised $45. Yes, every site raised exactly 40 bucks, because that's the server upgrade amount split among the active hosted sites. Clear enough? Only $40 was needed from every site. This was a call for donations for a very specific reason with a clearly defined amount needing to be raised.
