Restricted Area review

Post by Mr. Teatime »

<strong>[ Game -> Review ]</strong> - More info on <a href="http://wikipocalypse.duckandcover.cx/in ... Restricted Area">Game: Restricted Area</a>

<p><a href="http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/restrict ... eview.html" target="_self">Restricted Area has been reviewed at Gamespot</a>, and they didn't really like it, giving it 6.7 out of 10:</p>
<blockquote>
<p><em><span class="gstext15">
Restricted Area's instruction manual lists just two people from
Germany-based Master Creating in the developer credits. Regardless of
whether they're the only individuals who created this game, Restricted
Area has the feel of a small, humble project. It borrows liberally from
older games that have since influenced much-more-technologically
sophisticated examples of the role-playing genre, and Restricted Area's
relative lack of audiovisual punch, combined with its straightforward
action RPG gameplay, means it's only suited for avid fans of other
games in this style. If you're up for a decent cyberpunk-style Diablo
clone and are tolerant of technical issues, though, look no further.</span></em></p>

Wow. It'd be interesting to get a confirmation of this, I can't believe that the game is the work of two people only.

Well, looking from the Master Creating website, it looks as if they're only 2 guys.

Really, if you think about it, it was just one guy! It just says "Jan Beuck" next to the "content". From that I can infer he did THE ENTIRE FUCKING GAME BY HIMSELF! And the game even turned out pretty good!

If RA is in essence the work of one/two individuals, would that entitle it to an altogether warmer reception ? I.e :

Critic - 'Your painting is shite. Unadulterated, awful, shite.'
Artist - ':cry:'
C - 'Oh ! You have Down's syndrome, suffered significant head trauma during school, enjoy ice hockey, baseball and competitive boxing . . . and you have a lisp . . . - *awkward pause x2* *shuffles feet* *whistles* *stares at ceiling fan* - The painting is very, very good ! I love your very, very good painting ! You are a fantastic artist ! Yes you are ! BESTEST PANTIG EVAR !!'
A - ':hyper:'

You'd have to compare it with something else that requires a lot of people to do Blargh =/

I do understand your point though, in that case, yes, it would be utter shite for most people.

But Imagine a condominium(spell?) built only by five or six people... it would most likely be á very faulty building, but the feat would be impressive none-the-less..

A computer game does not require many people working on it to be of good quality. It can help, yes, but it is not a necessity. Just as one can construct a house by oneself, it will (most likely) take much longer than it otherwise would, but with appropriate care should not adversely affect the finished result at all. The uncle of a friend of a friend did just that, and the house has yet to kill anyone or disintegrate. Sadly.

Your analogies are flawed, friend Smiley. O, irony. :drunk:

The likelyhood of there being a lack of quality would be higher though.

A single person building a house, is much more likely to make flaws or "skip" a thing or two when facing so large a project.

Depends on the person/people responsible, not their number. Regarding houses and in the case of the uncle of a friend of a friend - I am hoping you are correct. Yes. :drunk:

"a cyberpunk-style Diablo clone" wasn't that obvious like ages ago? I mean the 'thing' was advertised as such a game from the very start :nausea surge:
