Bethesda wants YOU! to design quests

Post by Mr. Teatime »

<strong>[ Game -> Update ]</strong> - More info on <a href="http://wikipocalypse.duckandcover.cx/in ... le=Fallout 3">Game: Fallout 3</a>

<p><strong>Morbius</strong> pointed out that <a target="_self" href="http://www.bethsoft.com/links/job_05260 ... ">Bethesda are looking for a quest designer</a> to... well, design quests in Oblivion and Fallout 3:</p>
<blockquote>
<p class="subhdln"><em>QUEST DESIGNER -- Rockville, Maryland</em></p>
<p class="bdycpy"><em>Design and script quests for future Elder
Scrolls and Fallout products. Includes working in our proprietary
toolset to design and script quests.</em></p>
<em><span class="subhdln">REQUIREMENTS: </span></em> <ul>
<li><em>Excellent writing skills.</em></li><li><em>Strong problem solving skills.</em></li><li><em>Strong knowledge of gameplay mechanics and quest flow
in an RPG.</em></li><li><em>Programming or scripting language experience a plus.</em></li><li><em>Knowledge of The Elder Scrolls Construction Set a plus.</em></li><li><em>Knowledge of role playing games and The Elder Scrolls
or Fallout a plus.</em></li><li><em>Game industry experience a plus.</em></li><li><em>Strong desire to be part of a passionate TEAM, making
great games.</em></li>
</ul>
<p>
</p><blockquote><em> Applicant must send a written quest design doc with gameplay
mechanics, dialogue, walkthrough, and implementation criteria.
We will not review Morrowind Plugins themselves, so do not
send them. Keep the background story in your design to a
minimum; we are interested in seeing your dialogue writing,
logical thinking, overall quest flow, and implementation
ability.</em>
</blockquote>
<p> </p>
<blockquote>
</blockquote>
</blockquote>
<p>Interesting. After playing Morrowind, I'm hoping the way quests are
done in the ES series are far removed from the way they're done in
Fallout 3.

oh wait...I'm still in school. Do you think they'll hire someone without a degree?

Well you don't need any programming experience. It's certainly possible for anyone here to apply if they can write well enough.

Nice to know that I wasn't the only one bothered by that, but it could just be me being paranoid about fallout.

Well, they are searching quest designers for Fallout and Elder Scrolls. I doubt they let Elder Scrolls fanboys design the new Fallout.

Considering we'll likely use something very similar to Oblivion's Elder Scrolls Construction Set to build Fallout 3, why would the listing indicate that familiarity with Morrowind's version would be a plus, "aggravate" you? Come on, you complain that you don't like Morrowind and then when an opportunity to shape Fallout 3 comes up, you complain some more? :D The mind boggles, the mind boggles.

MSFD makes a good point. The position doesn't require programming experience (though it is a plus), the emphasis seems to be on creativity and logic - if I lived in America, I'd apply. It might even be something my degree in English could be useful for (and there's not very much of that around).

I'm creative. I played Fallout three or four times. I have the capacity for logic. Give me the fucking job.
suppose you're thinking about a plate of shrimp. suddenly somebody will say like 'plate' or 'shrimp' or 'plate of shrimp', out of the blue, no explanation.

I sent in my Fallout sitcom story like Vasikka recommended. Since we are pretty good friends can you put in a good word for me?

I'm torn between the childish desire within me to apply and the logic that dictates the likelihood of them hiring an Australian with no actual real experience - just to ship 'em out for some quests and stuff - is relatively low to non-existant.
