I rented it but I wasn't very impressed. The gameplay is very tedious and boring. The shooting is pretty fucking lame, you stop aim and try to hit a highlighted weak spot before they get you. The rest of the gameplay is a lot like adventure games which requires finding gay items that work with each other.
The only thing I liked about it was the crazy story and atmosphere. I was anticpating this game too.

Yeah I wasn't much of a fan until I put it on the hard difficulty and played for about an hour. You really don't get even close to a good feel for it until then. Plus the gameplay grows better and stronger exponentially with each chapter as does the level of darkness and the quality of the story. It's possibly one of the most original games i've ever played, as well as most enjoyable. I just made sure to go into it with no expectations which I think really is the only way to play the game.
also after you play it for awhile you find out how to move much quicker without having to stop at every intersection and chose your path, which speeds things up alot and makes the pacing more intense. I found that kills alot of the tedium. while the puzzles aren't that hard the way you have to solve them is so abstract that it makes them challenging. You might need an object but because it isn't set against a pre rendered background it doesn't stand out (RE games) making it alot more difficult. On the hard difficulty there are also alot more zombies and they take alot more hits to take down, also the weak points aren't automatically highlighted so you have to seach each limb to find it, when you've got 6 comming at you that can be a pretty sweet. Plus I don't know how far you got but the kinds of zombies you face become alot more sporatic and diverse again killing tedium. Above all though the story and art direction blew me away, the game could have sucked and I would have still played just to see what happened next and what the next area looked like.

Oh I totally agree, and don't think that is the case with this one. I'd definitely give it another try, and definitely play on the hardest difficulty. I can't play it on normal either. Oh and i'm not sure what you are referring to Toxic. If you mean Blargh's comment I didn't take it as a reference to this game, I was merely agreeing with his statement whatever it would be applied to.
