Hey,

I've just got around to installing some old games I have had and never got around to playing
I have Jagged Alliance: Deadly Games and JA2: Unfinished Business
I've been looking on the net for patches, etc and now I have a few quetions I need answered

1. Is Jagged Alliance and Jagged Alliance: Deadly Games the same game?
2. is JA2: Wildfire any good, I've seen it on ebay and not sure about it?

I might get the gold edition of JA2, which has JA2 and JA2:UB if I can win it on ebay
I'm kind of new to the games am pissed I got JA2:UB and not JA2
Thx in advance

About Jagged Alliance Wildfire - Wildfire is just a re-release of a mod that was online. The game itself is the same exact plot as Jagged Alliance 2, except for alot of differences.

First, the game itself is MUCH harder. Opponents tend to react abit more realistic, and theres many more of them. Next your mercs come better equipped to begin with, no starting off with a 9mm. Theres also some new weapons, foilage can be used to help camoflage your movement, and anumber of other things. It's a good buy although you can probably get it for free online since it's a mod and you already own JA2. Might want to look for Urban Chaos as well.

Don't bother getting Unfinished Bussiness honestly. It comes with an editor, but that's about it. The campaign itself it honestly really bad, even though the gameplay is still fun, but you can get the same gameplay and much more fun by getting wild fire.

Deadly Games is the sequel to JA, it's more like mere missions put together than a whole campaign like in JA, you don't have to care for money and loyalty of the people as well.
UB is similar, which is the sequel to JA2.
Imo they are both inferior to the main games JA and JA2, but worth a play nonetheless.
Besides you can play great mods for UB, like "Back 2 Business (B2B)" or "Vietnam SOG '69".

Excellent mods for JA2 would be "JA2 Vengeance" (mostly german mod, though), "JA2 Deidranna Lives" (first big mod), "Urban Chaos aka Deidranna Lives 2 (imo it has too many enemies to fight, hence making it rather boring later on) and others.

Unfortunately there is no Wehrmacht Mod or post-apoc mod for the games, yet.

JA2 Wildfire is a mod that went commercial, at least in v6.0 (which is not available in english yet), it adds some interesting twists like increased game resolution (1024*768) or weapon mods, but nothing storywise.
Besides it can't be modded because of its crypted .exe, and the publisher didn't allow modding it, either, which could make it a little difficult to develop mods.
I wouldn't recommend on buying it, better get the original JA2.

Looks kinda crappy? I personally think sprites and pixels are better then most 3-d stuff. JA still has good graphics in my opinion, ofcourse I think Fallout still has great graphics.

Define good graphics. Is it a high resolution and billions of colors? I prefer functional design and good artwork. If it depicts what the game is about in a refreshing and interesting way, then it's OK. There are a lot of things that can appeal to your eyes, not just the technique behind it. Pencil drawings can also look nice.

JA 2 is a certain cure for depression and general blueness.

I.e : 'Yes, Flo, you will hack of Biff's head with that machete.'

I cannot do justice to it, I cannot explain it, it just makes me smile. :drunk:

Hey,

Thx for the intel guys that pretty told me what I I need to know
The one piece of info I need is how to run the game off the HDD without the CD in the PC
I installed the game and made an image with CloneCD and mounted it with Daemon Tools
I also edited the CDROM file to point to the fake CD
The works fine until I choice the men for my team and it crashes back to windows

Any advice?

Do you have any background programs running like antivirus programs for instance? JA2 got problems with them, Norton especially.

I don't know about the english/american version of JA2, maybe one of the patches already includes a NOCD, so you would just need a full install. This has been the case for some german versions, at least.

The 1.12 patch for the JA2 Gold ed. includes a NoCD, but not for UB.

Edit: Does anyone know why the sound stutters under XP SP2?
VERY annoying.

well i meant good graphics as in compared to today's standards. you gotta admit the games pretty old. like if deadly games was re-made using modern graphics it would probably be a lot more popular. they could add more stuff to like better multiplayer support. more features like crawling, dual weilding etc. that was in ja2. it would be pretty great?

No I don't have anything running in the backgroud
And I should have stated that I meant JA: Deadly Games not JA2 that I can't run off HDD

That's probably because it's a DOS game, try DOSbox or VDMSound, if you use images, DOSBox is probably better since you can point to the mounts, but you need to configure it a bit.

the ja series certainly belongs to the most fascinating an innovative games so far. being rather old, the playability and replayability of ja2 is unmatched imho

as Thor Kaufmann (btw Hallo Thor) mentioned before, there are some great mods around as well

Just play Silent Storm, its newer and more friendly.

hmm

silent storm doesn`t come close to a decent ja2 mod. It has of course better graphics, but the setting is kind of dull
