Ideas please for new rank titles for WW2 Campaign.

Due to the fact that even using a prefab your character will always spawn at the start of a new campaign as an initiate and a really nasty duplication bug involving the recruit pool and demotions. I can't use the rank system for the traditional private, corporal, captain etc.

I've thought of using medals, with a little graphic of a medal on a ribbon instead of rank insignia. As you progress the more medals you'll get.

Anyone got any ideas for the titles? I want to keep things as generic as possible, we Brits don't have as many medals as the Americans and enlisted ranks were awarded different decorations than the Officer Class. Something that also could be used in multiplayer by teams on the different sides.

Something along the lines of medal of courage, medal of courage with bar etc.

Cheers

I'm quite capable of using a search engine, thanks.

I know what the real military ranks are, but my story line wouldn't make sense if my character starts as an initiate/private and there's a game breaker bug which stops me from adding another character to the squad, who would be the leader until the player had been promoted. There are work arounds and the easiest one is just to rename the ranks to something else.

As I said I'm looking for ideas for something generic. As in made up, not actual medals, fictional etc etc

Something that would work for different ranks, for different countries on either side.

I've run out of different ways of saying bravery.

name_Initiate = {-}
name_SeniorInitiate = {Merit Badge}
name_Squire = {Unit Commendation}
name_SeniorSquire = {Combat Clasp}
name_JuniorKnight = {Courage Citation}
name_Knight = {}
name_SeniorKnight = {}
name_KnightCommander = {}
name_JuniorPaladin = {}
name_Paladin = {}
name_PaladinCommander = {}
name_PaladinLord = {Bravery Medal}
name_General = {Gallantry Medal}

Add device's to generic medals. That's what us American's do. For example, we have an Army Commendation Medal, which can also be earned with "C" devices for courage and "V" devices for valor, in addition to plain vanilla.

I did a search and it seems to be written, DFC with V device, is that correct? So it would be similar to what I had before Medal of Bravery with bar?

If I can't think of any others then either that or with bar, but I prefer to have individual titles.

Changed the last few ranks to,

name_PaladinCommander = {Bravery Medal}
name_PaladinLord = {Gallantry Medal}
name_General = {Valour Star}

Still got the reputations to change as well. Ah they'll go entirely I think.

Release a demo before you mysteriously dissapear from these forums. I wonder what happens when people say they are making something and just dissapear :?

Even if its just 1 map

Urm, no. I've got 2.5 maps left to tile, a few custom tiles to make or get made. Then it's just a matter of writing the speech files and populating the maps/doing the scripting. In the time it takes to stop and make a demo map I could get half that lot done.

It will get done, the maps might not be pretty, it's hard to avoid ugly patterns when you're trying to make a 1940's European locale, using a post apocalyptic Americana tileset.

You can have a little preview though of one of the biggest maps in the campaign.

That river looks sweet. The houes looks like it could use more stuff in the front yard. Possibly put in some hills so that troops can hide behind?

Chateau's tend to have manicured lawns, flattened out.

There is a stealthy way of course, but if you favour the direct approach you'll have to brave the open killing ground.

Though there will be some vehicles in the drive, but the mini-map is deliberately out of date.
