Knew I saw it somewhere here, but search returnet no results.S4ur0n27 wrote:It is.
Walt created a thread about it like a year ago though.
By the way, soundtrack is good too. Japs have this tendency of putting shitty songs("theme songs") at the end of movies, so they can sell singles later for few more bux, but even this was made well in Jin Roh. Amazing.

The reason (or atleast in my opinion) is because the director, Ooshi, views his movies as real life movies and as such doesn't go with convential anime styles of "J-POP AND KAWAII MOMENTS ^_^" and tries to approach them from a serious standpoint. He also directed both Ghost in the Shells and Blood the vampire. The sad thing is, his live action movies aren't any good but his anime movies generally have good merit.Koki wrote:By the way, soundtrack is good too. You're right. But they're all Japanese so it's the same difference. Oshii did direct both Ghost in the Shell Movies though as well as the Jin-Roh prequels. That's probably where I got confused. Okiura and Ooshi also work together often.S4ur0n27 wrote:Isn't Ooshi the guy who wrote the manga?
Okiura made the movie

It's certainly a very pretty movie, and the timing is near perfect all the way through. Still, I got this thing about silent heroes and lines that consist of "...". Sure enough it brings realism and emotion to this piece, but overall it's an annoyance, and Jin-Roh had me going 'Just fucking say something' at least a couple of times.
Especially with all the visual one got concerning his thoughts and feelings, you'd think he might actually have something to say, maybe express something verbally for once? Trauma, grief, plotting, whatever - I'd rather have him stuttering than mute, simply because silent heroes aren't interesting. If I met that guy on the street, I just wouldn't care. Any questions I had from watching the flick, I'd just drop them, because he obviously was born without an opinion.
Still, I liked it. Not exactly as entertainment, more as a work of art.
