Scary game or movie?

Post by Geno »

Do you prefer a good ol' horror movie or a scary game? I've started playing Doom 3 and I'm fucking scared, like Resident Evil 4 did, even more, but I watch supposedly scary movies and I don't feel anything.

What about you?

I'd rather watch a scary movie, I just don't like the feeling of being scared while I'm playing a game. RE4 was just right for me, had that hardcore kickass feel instead of having the pop out of your seat because you just saw a little girl raping herself.

anything where it makes you anticipate the comming scare causes me to cry and flinch so that everyone behind me in the movie theatre is like "is that a guy?"

Hah!

When I was in High School, I had a strange incident.

I was sitting in the bleachers for whatever reason with some other students. A pair of seagulls strafed us, gliding just 2 feet above all of our heads. It was like a high speed bombing run, but they didn't crap on us. They appeared by complete surprise.
I shrieked.
Really.
Just Like In The Movies.
THAT kind of shreik.
Totally by reflex.
It all happened so fast.
I didn't register the birds, just "something" flying right at me out of nowhere.
I wasn't even very embarassed afterward.
I was still spooked an hour later for no reason.

Wow, I'm surprised I even remember that.

Movies never scared me because when I was young my family only had a small TV. The wee-people killing and maiming each other (etc) was more amusing than gruesome/frightening.

My wife got out of bed the other night and got to the door...Made a loud noise her first step down the stairs, I yelled and grabbed the machete and went at her. Turns out if I'm woken from a nice sleep by a loud noise, I get a little scary.

I think I'll scary movies. Even though most of the ones to come out are craptuckular. For some crazy ass reason cheesy 70's and 80's horror is about the only thing that can bother me. And even then I am pretty desensitized. So meh. whatever.

Uh, both? Depends on the game or the movie. System Shock 2 is scarier than any movie I've ever seen, but I just started playing RE4 and so far I've had nary a raised pulse.

No movie ever scared me after I saw Scream back in the day. I have yet to see The Exorcist, though.

Scary games. The haunted mansion in Vtm:BL still makes me a little jumpy.

Wait what? Your bedside machete? You keep it next to the lamp and a novel?
How appropriate. You fight like a cow.

Doom 3 lost it's scaryness when you learned to expect imps coming out of some magical monster chest. In every corridor, that is. The brief visit in Hell was scawy at times though.

I thought Wolfenstein 3d was scary when I played it as a kid. I remember how my knees were shaking everytime I encountered a boss monster. I was jumping and shouting in excitement. Doom didn't arouse any emotions other than "whoa cool graphics!".

EDIT: How could I forget AvP. The space marine part is just chilling.

EDIT 2: ALone in the Dark..... I'll stop editing now.
