Eh. I bought it. I really like it. Scary monsters go BOO and I go BANG BANG BANG and bitches die. If anyone cares, I can go a bit more in depth.
P.S. mail me a copy of Total Annihilation, Silent Storm, and whatever other awesome games I never had the chance to buy.
Much love,

Please go a bit more in depth. From what I've read and seen it's a mediocre FPS. Not sure how bullet time is helping the gaming experience; I always considered it annoying after a while. Far Cry seemed like an interesting game, but it turned out to be a regular tunnel shooter halfway through the game.

I actually abandoned it at that point. And it was so shiny, too

Some say it's OMG LOL AWEZOME!!! some say it's just too fucking short and then there's the minority that can't be bothered to play it through because they say it sucks balls so hard that it almost swallows them.

It's not really that great. It's not scary at all( i'm a chicken too) and the story is pretty dumb. The shooting is all right though there could be more guns and some actual squad combat instead of saying "everyone died, you are on ur own." It has some cool melee attacks that I like that are new to me. YOu can do W to go forward then hit the spacebar while doing the right mouse button to do a scissors kick.

I think it can be pretty creepy if you have a decent sound-system..
But after a while it's just "meh", because you know that you'll rarely get affected by the visions and ghosts around you..
The melee system rocks. Finally an FPS where you can see your god damn legs!
The weapons kinda suck.. some are alright, but that's very late in the game.
I tihnk it's pretty hard to hit anything, since everythings apparently a burst weapon... *sigh*
There are some weird bugs here and there, but it's an ok experience, and it's worth a few bucks.

By few bucks,do you mean 2-3$ to buy it pirated or 50$ to buy it original?

More like 10$ when it gets old..
I dunno man, it's pretty stupid, because in it's own right it's an awesome game. The problem is that we have so many previous good titles to compare it with, and thus the physics, weapons and graphics become kinda irrelevant...

How does the melee combat compare to chronicles of Riddick?
I tried the demo but my computer isn't good enough. And far cry was better than half-life 2.

Oh excitement galore! I do wonder if the final product gives me blue-screens as well!

Well, I for one thought it was pretty damn good, as shooters go. Single player was very fun. And physics, especially, are still relevant, as games such as HalfLife2 have SHITTY physics. Not to mention are boring games. Think of it as halflife with much prettier combat. And much better physics. It's not the kind of game i'd be like OMGWTFROFL GO BAI LOLLS but still, if you know a person or two who are thinking about it, split the bill and share the game.
Really, it's pretty straight forward. There are often multiple ways to get to an objective, nothing spectacular, just a vent here you might not notice, a different hallway, etc. But still. It's fun. Listening to these guys chatter on their communications gear as you trash their men is great. The bullet time feature is used pretty well. It's not some super matrix slow mo for an hour, at the start it's actually very quick before it's gone. As you go through the game you can get it lengthened and such. But seriously. There is nothing quite like taking that nailgun and pinning a bitch to a wall by his throat and listening to him scream. Or blasting that guy over there in the torso with a shotgun and watching him turn into a puff of blood and a splattering of organs. Or jumpkicking that guy over a barrel and off a ledge. Oh the morbid thoughts.
And Smiley, want to throw some of those great titles my way? I can think of only HL2 and FarCry that are comparable, and HL2 was pathetic, only worthy because DOD and I go way back, and FarCry was pretty boring. Fun upon occasion, but still.
As for comparing to Riddick, I dunno. I saw it played, but never played it. It's just that melee has a deeper aspect than "melee" button. You can jump+melee for a lunging jump kick, or whatever.
Really it was pretty short, I beat it in... two days? But I played it a hell of a lot. Halflife I beat in two sittings. Christ that was a pathetic single player. There was nothing really redeeming in that game. Other than when you got to release the bugs on the guards. But that was short and never used again.
FEAR ran pretty well on my computer (x800, AMD64 3200+, gig o' ram) set to a combination of medium and high settings. Really it only got choppy when I went near water, which was stupidly set to high, I found out. It had a well set out checkpoint saving feature that saved my ass many times. Plus quick saves and such keep the amount of retrying to a minimum.
But seriously. If you have a beastly sound card and some nice surround sound speakers and a good sub, I think that'd just make it all the better. I don't, sadly. But I know it would be a hell of a lot better if I did.
If nothing else, it'll tide you over until STALKER. Oh. Wait. That's vaporware. Sorry, false alarm. The future of games is rather grim.
Overall, as far as FPS go, it's above par. Take that as you will.

I saw it on tee vee. Firefights look pretty, but the scarideness is kinda lame. Not because it's not scary, but because it operates solely on scripted events. Second playthrough will be practically a breeze.

Scrap this game.If you want to buy a shooter at this period there is only one option.

no way all the cool kids are playing garrys mod 9

It doesn't really seem that deep to me. You can melee standing or jump and melee? In Riddick you can do loads of stuff and it's brutal, you should try it.
It doesn't really look that good to me. Like, people like it now. But will they like it in a few months when the next pretty shooter comes out? From what I've read it's what doom 3 should have been. Or was that quake 4? Whatever, they both sound a bit mediocre. I'm a little bored of the same old shit, and this doesn't add much new. I'll just carry on playing battlefield and replay max payne 2

I really like FEAR. It's got a good atmosphere and some tense moments (and im not really talking about the "scary" moments). There are some scary moments though...but i can't say it's a horror, it's more like a good thriller.
And it really does look good, they've made some amazing light- and water-effects. With everything high it looks allot better then D3. D3 and Q4 are really cartoony which i kinda hate. And they've really payed attention to detail (stuff on desks, rubbish on floor, rust UNDER chairs, stuff like that).
The game itself has some nice combat elements like slow-mo and HTH attacks. And the HTH really come together when in slow-mo. The AI is pretty awesome, it's not scripted so soldiers don't appear at the same spot all the time. The movie elements are scripted, but it's kinda hard not to...
Story is kind of short, like 16 hours maybe, but compare that to Q4 and it's like twice as long.
I really enjoyed playing it and found it worth my money, but i'd really like an expansion or something....fast...and if someone else thought it sucked, then that's your opinion.
FEAR=really good game

Lets just say someone hasn't played a FPS since Duke Nukem 3D. Would FEAR be worth checking out?

I'm not sure it would run on the same computer that you played D3D on. And no, just get half-life 2 or some shit, it'll last longer.

I got the demo of it, and it wouldn't even work on my computer. Screen would just go black and my computer would freeze.

For once apparently the damage scale for the weapons isn't gay. From what I've read in previews. The damage scale isn't on some kind of queerbait deathmatch sport curve which tries to balance out weapons.
I appreciate that in games. That alone is enough to warrant a look-see.
Anyone have an idea of what kind of system you might need to run it reasonably well? The boxed system requirements aren't usually accurate.
