Battlefield 2

So, normally I look down on most pseudo-military shooters with as much disdain as a parisian does at american tourists. However I'm sick of waiting for Armed Assault and it's sequel.
A friend of mine keeps telling me to buy it, just so we can play online.
Now. Has anyone played it? Their opinions? I have pretty high expectations for games that have the slightest pretense of simulating, you know. Guns firing, bullets hitting people, or a war. So, it was no surprise that to entertain the idea of buying the game I've had to make a concerted effort to lower them in preparation.. Do you think given my proclivities for gaming-snobbery I'd get too pissed off with it to enjoy it?
I really don't know. I don't want to spend 50 bucks on something I'll play once and toss out the window.
Some of the ideas in the game seem, alright I guess. However where I really hit a wall is in weapon performance. Anything that smacks of counterstrike puts me off in a heartbeat.
Any requirement on my behalf to devise arbitrary unrealistic strategies to score hits with weapons that are "supposedly" realistic, (such as the alleged recoil patterns in Counterstrike) pisses me off. Primarily because I've grown used to applying crazy things like real world logic and experience into my gaming strategy.
That may be a handicap in the case of most retardo games, but it pays off when I play something like OFP.
