Fascinating MCA interview

It's very well written, as is usual for MCA, and I recommend you all go
and read it (though Vault Dweller could take the entire thing off the
front page... CONTENT SYSTEM, MOTHERFUCKER? DO YOU USE IT?). There are
plenty of mentions of Fallout in there, I'll
quote one of the many bits about it:</p>

I don't know who on my green earth believes that New Reno does not fit into the fallout universe. But they are about as bright as the dickheads who decided it would be a good idea to whip me half to death and then nail me to a cross in the blazing hot sun.

New Reno was very different from other locations both in Fallout and Fallout 2. That alone doesn't make it crap. In my opinion, the issue is not whether a dark, gritty place of sin and gambling would fit into the setting, but rather how it was implemented. New Reno had a special, deep atmosphere and was rich in detail in addition to well designed quests. BUT it was way overdone with profanity, drugs n' hos, cliché-ridden mafia families, bust-a-cap-in-yo-gangsta-ass crap, easter eggs and what not. It seems like the designers put more or less every idea they got into New Reno. Everyone was either a criminal or a gambling/drug junkie. About the interview, good stuff.
I think the whole Fallout soundtrack was great and captured the setting well. It sort of set you in the right mood, wherever your character was. So the statement that "questions asked reflect what many folks there think of those games" only applies to RPG Codex and not DAC. At least when it comes to the NR statement.

New Reno was tacky and too much for the overall setting. However, I didn't think that the first time I played FO2. I just thought it was crazy fun. Most of the criticisms leveled at FO2 don't really register with me because I enjoyed the thing so damn much. Is good.

It has, admittedly, been some time since I last played Fallout 2, and so I don't quite remember New Reno. Was that the city that tore from a seemingly conspicuously bad Bruce Lee film plot rejection, amongst other similarly hilarious additions that I cannot recall at the time of writing ?

The excessive adult content in New Reno didn't add anything to my gaming experience, except maybe some mild amusement quickly forgotten by the marvel of who the fuck stole my car. I enjoyed Fallout 2, although not as much as the original, but I got my kicks elsewhere than playing a virtual porn actor.
