Valve's $20 demos

This is another thing that's been bugging me lately. Why is ANYBODY excited about HL2: Episode 1 and the Sin Episodes thing? Valve and idiot fans are acting like episodic content is a new thing. Fucking id software did it more than 10 years ago with the Commander Keen series and Doom by releasing 1/3 a game for free online or shareware discs. If this shit makes any money at all expect to have to pay for all demos in the future.

I just know people are gonna be crying about how short these episodes/demos are. And how long is it gonna be between them? 6 months? A year? Who the hell has the patience for that. Sin is supposed to be 9 episodes at $20 each. A $180 game. That's totally fucking ridiculous.

People will still pay. And those that don't will find a way to get it anyways.

It is an insult to the shareware system.

Good question. Revive apogee, and join forces with Interplay?

Through the (in)appropriate lens, anything can be considered an insult. 'Tis foolish to attempt to please everyone, to want an impossibility. No compulsion to purchase, so I find how their chosen method(s) of fleecing relatively insignificant. :drunk:

I'm not surprised if people will buy that stuff anyway. People are willing to pay 20 bucks per month to play online Asian games.

Most likely when all of the episodes are out, they can be bought for much less.

It wouldn't surprise me if you would be able to buy episode 1 along with 2 when that arrives, for much less.

Wouldn't it be more pleasing to everything, to complete avoid the system they're currently using?

Or maybe he was just invisible.

The profiteers would disagree. And do, vehemently. For now. And they hold The Pen. Perhaps in potential failure it may be revised. Better odds upon it being shared and adopted, rather like syphilis. The public, the consumers ? They can ride the blimp. Many will, because they are richer in money than wisdom. Such a marketing decision is, of course, driven by reason(s), however flawed or alien they may be.

The omnipotent SCU.

Financially manifested misanthropy.

Warms my heart's heart. Yes. :drunk:
