STALKER developers forced to face reality
<strong>[ Game -> Preview ]</strong>
<p>The vapourware that is STALKER made an E3 appearence this year,
though it was different from what the game has been hyped up to be.
It's not so freeform any more and seems to be going down the 'action
adventure' route, as the games' publishers have sent in some suits to
slap the developers into developing something that might actually get
released one day. <a href="http://www.atomicmpc.com.au/article.asp?CIID=37941" target="_self">Here's the preview, courtesy of Atomic</a>, and here's a quote:</p>
<blockquote>
<p>'This is an example of a little bit of how the game has changed over
the year,' said Sharpe. 'You wouldn't have [this] type of thing in the
game before - it was completely open-ended. So now we've added scripted
events to make sure you can actually follow the story.' We had to ask
at this point about STALKER's much publicised 'A-Life' AI system.
'It's
still there, but with scripting elements as well that make sure that
you can make it through the game ... It's still very, very open-ended.
The only difference is that there are now scripted events throughout
the world that will let you progress. But once that scripted event
happens that area then opens up to the entire world again,' explained
Sharpe.</p>
</blockquote>
<p>I can sense the Xbox360 multiplatform announcement any day now.

This sounds remarkably like "sorry this level is off limits till you get the magical helmet of get-the-fuck-out, then you can proceed to this level until another mutant can negate your helmet and you have to get a new one to get to the next level!" shit.According to the THQ representative who played through the demo for us: 'The guy that killed me there was a mutant who takes control of your mind, sucks you towards him and rips your face off and throws you back again.' The mutant then proceeded to walk over and start eating our corpse. Lovely.
I still didn't see a mention of dragons either.
I actually saw a smaller version of that image earlier today on another forum.Koki wrote:jetbaby wrote:I saved that image.

it's so nice the stalker dev team were so ambitious and tried to present us with a new type of gaming experience, but, ffsake, they could realize it's impossible years ago and give us a simpler (like the present 'version'), but still entertaining and (THEN) awesome-looking game a few years back, when many folks were actually lookin forward to it. Now it feels like some bad irony.
