RIP The Wastes

[ Mod -> Update ] - More info on Mod: The Wastes: Source

The Wastes, the long running (7 years) Halflife and Halflife 2 mod which we gave some news attention to in the past, has ceased production.

The team
members ended finding real employment in the game industry, which is probably really good for them, but their mod will now never be finished. They wrote up a nice eulogy for their project, which you can read <a target="_self" href="http://thewastes.planethalflife.gamespy ... >
Thanks to T-900/Jakk for letting me know.

It's not like they were actually posting progress anyway. Unless it was in their forum which I never read. Regardless, :salute: and :hats_off: because Wasteland Half-Life is God's truly perfect creation.
off topic? OMG YOU'VE BEEN CENSORED... yet you're still posting. MYSTARY!!!!

The Wastes had style... One of the best good old fashioned fun like momma used to have deathmatch games, with great atmospheric visuals and sounds.

And throwable spears taken straight from the inventory-graphic of Fallout 2's Spear, near enough :P

They made a game with soul, not just with authentic looking M4A1s... A loss to the mod community and post-apocalyptic gaming :(

It had style, like 7 years ago. Since 2001 the mod was run by a bunch of talentless hacks with zero drive to accomplish anything.

Isn't that the way most mods end?

Of course, I'm not talking about FMF.

Of course not, FMF will never end. It will live on in our dreams and our nightmares. Forever.

It was pretty much you're typical deathmatch game. At the very least Wasteland Halflife was HLDM with a different suit on and one shot kills for every weapon. At best it was an incredibly difficult DM game with the best maps, realistic and clever weapons, a totally original duel weapon mode, and a kickass atmosphere. It's a shame it never lived up to its potential after so many years. I'm sure some other jackass in their forums will pick up the reigns in a few months and inspire false hope for a half decade.

About fucking time they gave it up.

Nothing like a slow-moving localized apocalypse to really make you think about proper data backup procedures.
