Re: Fallout d20
Yeah, that's the bothersome point of it all. However, I'm not sure what the status of GURPS is, which would probably lend itself to a seamless x-ition from the CRPGs to the table-top quite a bit better than going with the d20 System.Ausir wrote:D20? Why the hell won't they make a SPECIAL game?
Of course, the OGL of d20 takes care of a host of legal issues that would have to be resolved before work could begin on a GURPS-based version...
EDIT:
Uh, that's kinda quick. Ain't it?Glutton Creeper Games' site wrote:Our first product is planned for release this fall.

d20 tends to dumb everything down. Not only will all the nuances and whatnot of SPECIAL be lost, but also the game will be balanced as hell, which in the case of Fallout, will make things significantly lame.
suppose you're thinking about a plate of shrimp. suddenly somebody will say like 'plate' or 'shrimp' or 'plate of shrimp', out of the blue, no explanation.
But are these named Hurt and Burn?VasikkA wrote:I bet no one will play it. Except maybe me, if I can play a Dark Elf with dual katanas.
Serious Business.

Someone has already done a SPECIAL based Fallout PnP game, it's a free download somewhere, I lost the link.D20? Why the hell won't they make a SPECIAL game?
I looked it over and it shows why adapting a computer RPG over to PnP is difficult; the game faithfully follows the Fallout rules and ends up being too cumbersome and complex to play. Maybe if someone trimmed back the combat rules a lot it would be playable.
I never bothered trying to fix the rules because my PnP group is not into the PA setting.
There is also an existing D20 Fallout version available for free download out there somewhere, I used to be on a mailing list that discussed it.
-Do we have anything resembling a plan?
Jason's Fallout PnP is here: http://pnp.duckandcover.cx
And yes, it follows the computer game mechanics too faithfully, but it doesn't mean SPECIAL combat mechanics can't be simplified without changing the character system.

Isn't it possible to email one of the guys making the d20 game saying to do something with the special too or instead? If not, maybe we can sign a petition stating what we think would be a good system. Who knows, maybe if enough people are wanting the special system (revised a bit ofcourse), then it will be made. Then if it does end up happening, (hey, one needs some form of hope) a fallout gm screen would be extremely handy.
I doupt this will happen, I wonder if anyone here wants to take on a challenge and reconfigure the Special rules to make them less complex?
