I recall some discussion of these games some time back and this weekend I saw them in stores for thirty bucks. So did I waste my money or are these actually good?
P.S. I just now notice one is DVDRom. That means I have to make that piece of shit work.

I have yet to play them. Though I probably prefer
X-Com.
Now you can berate relevance, too !

If you spent $30 each then you did waste your money and should return them if possible. $30 for the pair is more up in the air. I'm playing Aftershock off and on right now and it's OK, but there are a lot of small annoyances. First off, it has Starforce so you need to use a crack. Then there's the RTwP combat instead of turn-based. It won't run in full screen on my Nvidia or ATI cards so I have to disable fullscreen through a command line addition to the shortcut. Some of the missions are frustrating, especially when I have to kill a certain number of aliens and the last one keeps running around and around avoiding my team.

Thirty for the pair. No tax. So technically $29.99.

Your wit is as infectious as your namesake. Specifically during the Orange Years. Or is it ? Studies are out, still. Moving along, continue, or be stopped. You
know.
Baby arm, that was our dear friend, Fred, whom you so thoroughly eviscerated. Nicely done. And yet, even in this moment of excellence, disappointment looms. Ehue.

I've been playing Aftermath a bit and it's... buggy. I installed, played a bit, patched, and now I'm playing again and I've had two crazy graphical issues in the middle of a fight that then caused a crash.
