The nesssesity of the prequel and Prequel ideas.

Yeah, I bet I just pissed some people off who thought of some ideas for FO3-Post Enclave style, but it wouldnt work- there is nothing left in the world of intrest to us- all remnats of America have been destroyed, without knowladge of how to produce fusion batteries, everything (including all forms of power armor) would be destroyed. So, frankly in the way FO2 was moving, any more FOs would enter the over used relm of sci-fi, not retro-postapoc-sci-fi, which is great.

Now Iam thinking for FO3, it should be set in 2083, assuming it comes out in 2003, and should have you trying to change the world in a dramatic way-ass opposed to both FO's, where your goal is to keep the world the way it is. Perhaps your goal is to destroy a communication line that keeps the still interconnected U.S army going, but not enclave style- this is the age of first generation Power Armor.
For the love of god respond. My last couple of posts have been embaricing. :oops:

A whole GAME based before fallout would suck major balls. Here are a few reasons off the top of my head.

*No mutants, ghouls or critters

*the wasteland wouldnt exist.

*Guns wouldnt be widely available

*Power armour would only be available in high-security military bunkers

*what would be the point in the game as you know you would fail

*it wouldnt be barren enough..the citys would be bustling full of people and cars would be driving around and shit.

It might work set a few years before FO!, but not many people would be there, a lot of radiation would be about and yet again, no mutants.


I think a small portion of the game pre-apoc, like mabye you go to work and stuff, then the warning sirens go off as the first bombs land, so you frantically run to the nearest vault (13).

Theres plenty left out there. At the end of fallout 1 you could have said:Oh whats left after you've killed all the mutants. At the end of fallout 2 you could have said: Oh whats left after youve killed all the enclave.

So far the only things you can't kill any more are:
Mutants
Any government conspiracy type guys.
Robots.

Think of all the old 50's sci-fi movies that used to be on. Giant ants, pod-people, aliens, giant vegetable men, weird telepathic children.

You could fight:
Religous cults (?)
Insects (them)
Stuff from the sea (godzilla...and stuff)
Replicant type people (Children of the damned, Body snatchers)
super-mutants with more brains than muscles (?)
Shape-shifters (the thing)
A plauge (?)
Aliens (A bit corny, but most things were from space in teh 50's)

You could just be a guy who goes round towns and solves mysterys 9like the twilight zone) and it all leads to some big bad thingy.

Use your imagination.

Hah, look at the date I listed- 2083, 5 years after ww3, five years after world wide devistation. I was thinking that a part of the game could be set before the day it rained nukes, but most would be set after it . True, there would be no critters of enormus size, but this would allow for more humans, robots, replicants and the like- not to mention more art deco architecture, more movies and more about the war and MR. Grey.
Although, this would be set so long before the events of FO1 that there would be little or no inacurices.
Heh, weird, Pyro has some good ideas. Always thought you were a perv perpetually masterbating.
Also the world would be more advanced then the world in either Fo or FOT, if not also Fo2, but there would still be no ADV. PA, which is good for all fallout.

My favorite town in all of fallout is Necropolis- for there you truly get the idea -WTF happened here? You feel all of mankind's destrucitve nature piled up on a 21inch screen, using poor resilution. I want more towns like Necropolis. Here is a list of ideas
-Lesser Ghouls, The Begginings of Mutation from both FEV and Radiation
-A strong, perhaps even Fascist U.S goverment presense, attempting to survive in the wasteland, but unlike the Enclave, there goal is oppression of the masses, not extinction to survive.
-Alot more 50's feeling
In terms of style, while I love the wastelandm I am thinking more along the lines of an emerging wasteland-one where you can see the dying flora/fungi. The cities, I would love to see a sort of nuked out Brazil or Metropolis, with a Brazilian sense of humor ("Happines, we are all in it together""Shangri-La Towers""Suspicion Breeds Confindense") While some may dissagre, I think a sort of Nuked out classic distopian atmosphere would be great.

I see how that works. U could be a Old West-Tek Employee trying to find out what happen. With the prequel, Black Isle could devle deeper into the beginning of the resouce wars. There may be a chance of Massive Suckage, but its a nice idea.

Wes Tek, eeehh, good idea but a staple of all distopian (and for that matter noir) is that the protagonist is, in the beggining, normal-
-In FO1, you where an average Vault Citizen
-In FO2 you where a common tribal
So Iam thinking a common grunt who looses his way after the war (before the game starts)

This is an interesting dilema for the possibilaty of a prequel- The RPG FOs are based around the people of V13, so how would that work?
Well, I have no idea.

Even though thats the impression I give to most people, on this forum and a few others I can act normal.


I think that also they're should be a winter/summer cycle. Like through august until febuary it's a nuclear winter, with furry and fat critters coming out and the wasteland all snowy, and a summer cycle with the skinny and scaly critters coming out over the hot desert.

Might work. Probably won't. But it would add variation to the game. Like in winter towns could be barricaded in and not letting many people in, while in summer everyone needs water mabye? Doest really stick to the fallout theme of the wasteland though...but it is a kind of wasteland...just a very cold and barren one, compared to the hot and barren one.

Anyway..back on topic.

The radiation count would be to high just after a nuke landed. You'd just melt after a few minutes, that's if you didnt get caught by a nuclear blast.
It might be good if you have to get into a car then rush through the town towards vault 13, with people running in front of your car, planes crashing into the road in front and building collapsing.

Plus the disadvantage of a prequel is population. Instead of about 30 people in a town, there would be 30 people in a bar.

Look at fo- there is no water on the map, let alone enough for a healthy cycle. Although maby a cold/hot season would be interesting

heres a weather cycle I pulled out of my ass.

Sep-All the crops and vegetables die that are in the ground and the scorpions and ants go into hibernation

Oct-clouds start to gather from the east and from the sea

Nov-it starts to rain and thunder, then later snow

Dec-a thick snow covers the wasteland and the furry critters come out (hairy deathclaws (?), wolves etc)

Jan-it stops snowing

Feb-the snow starts to melt with radiationand streams quickly dry up in the wasteland heat

Mar-vegetables are quickly planted in the mud as the summer critters come out again. Longer days shorter nights

Apr-the mud drys up with the every hot sun

Jun-it starts getting very warm again, and people use the water from winter to keep themselves cool, and to mix in with beer

Jul-gets a bit cooler

Aug-longer nights, shorter days



You could also mabye have a winter every 3 years or something. But it doesnt really go with the fallout universe.

Well, I'd like some variation in the weather. Sunshine, clouds, perhaps rain. Oh and moving cloud shadows on the ground would be nice.

yeah, that won't take up much memory.

There could and probably would be snow after a nuclear attack. Hence the term, nuclear winter.

Winter due do debris in the air causing reduced amount of sunlight warming the globe. The severity of the nuclear winter would depend on how many nukes and how large throwing how much into the atmosphere. A nuclear winter would be a one time thing lasting from months to years. When the debris settled, things would begin to approach normal. However, plants and animals would be all out of whack, so that part of recovery would take much longer and never return to prior normality. Some species would be gone, others would be more plentiful. Deep thoughts, man.

As far as I know, nuclear winter never happened in Fallout. Fallout was more of a "burnt earth" model of a post nuclear wasteland.

Five years after the Great War, there wouldn't be hardly any people because most vaults haven't opened. Nearly all the survivors you see in Fallout were either straight from the vault or the first generation of people born after coming out of vaults.

Oh yeah, there's no damned REPLICANTS in Fallout either. Grrrrrrrrrrr.

The entire premise is to have amazingly few (about 1000 per forormer metrolpolis) Although you honestly think Mexico City would have been nuked off the face of the earth?
B)Not replicant REPLICant, I mean a sort of scooped humanoid or maybe some sort of 30's Metropolis esque machine (Fake Maria, anyone)?
C) What else is wrong with the ideas? Saint, are you totally opposed to it?

it was probably left on for ages, or some guy turned it on then went out and got killed or something.

I think we can file that little bit under "C" for "Cinematographic Device". Notice how the TV is juxtaposed against the ruined background after having shown you a couple of nifty commercials for high-end consumer goods.

Please don't file it under "R" for "Realistic Depiction of Post Apocalyptic Life". My clerk will be lost for weeks if you do that. :wink:

Well they were tribals and the people in towns...I'd have imagined most vault people to have died under the test conditions but i would have thought they would have been more citys like vault 8.
