I dunno.. I was kinda enthusiastic about this game, but when I finally got it.. uh.. kind of a let-down. It's civilisation all over again.
Some good things are actually missing.
the 3D is a joke - it's just a flat map viewed in 3D - how cool
the only good thing is that a weak enemy can surrender to a powerful enemy before your final blow. But it's just fun the first time you see it.
Winning by "influence" is a cool idea, but WTF is an "influence resource"?! You just go to a spot, build a mine and wait to win by spreading influence.. how idiotic - the sole difference between "cultural influence" and "military power" (and some others) is the colour of the dot inside a mine... now this is one varied choice of winning strategies, so immersive..

Yeah. There was some buzz about them completely ditching all forms of copy protection but they got a lot of press when the Starforce guy posted the link and was like "SEE WHAT HAPPENS??!?!" It was a stupid thing to do, yes, but it netted a shitload of publicity in game rags, websites, forums etc. that Stardock otherwise wouldn't have got so in a way it sort of backfired for SFP.
