Gothic 3

Anyone started playing that yet? Apart from being buggy as hell/close to unplayable it's still a pretty fun game. 2 gigs of ram recommended to save you from swap hell.

It's like the cursed Oblivion but it's actually fun.

http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?doc ... q=gothic+3

It's in german but it gives you a pretty good overview of the game, there is an english version of the game available aswell.

Gothic I and II are some of the best action-adventure-RPGs that I've ever played. Ever. I suggest starting from the older ones. Gothic III is way too newb-friendly, I and II are absolute classics (difficult as hell).

Basically, you play from a 3rd person perspective. I cannot draw any threads with other games, since I haven't played anything similar to that.

The only problems are a series of major bugs and occasionally poor AI, however most can be fixed by a simple load game.

I seriously recommend it to everyone.

Gothic II is probably the best in the series, but you won't understand the storyline unless you've played the first one, which is absolutely legendary. Torrenting now (left my CDs home). Make sure you get hold of the English versions of the game.

I give it: 7.7/8 Little Saddams (minus 0.3 Saddams for the amount of bugs).

I couldn't stand the fucking combat controls.

Seriously, the whole melee system was like knifing in Counterstrike.

I don't know if there was targeting.

I just know I hated that shit.

So after getting into the monastery with my fucking sheep, I switched to god mode and just enjoyed the other parts of the game.

I did switch back to normal for the last part on that island.
With the blasto-spell.

(That island reminded me of the Giger painting of Island Of Death, or whatever it was called.)

The combat system in Gothic I and II is difficult to get used to, but once you do, it's one of the most skill-based combat systems that I've seen in RPGs. Not like one of those "click-click-click" ones where the fastest clicker wins.

Well, G3 is pretty gosh darn buggy and in many ways consolized. While the codex might call it rpg-lite, I'd go the extra slandering mile in calling it a mele fighting simulator with skills.

except that gothic 3 emphasizes actual choices and a real living gameworld with amazing atmosphere and is more of an RPG than anything that's come out in the past couple of years. but other than that, yeah it's like fable in which it's a computer game so they're pretty much the same thing right.

Gothic 3's combat system is nothing like what the other games had.

I really digged Gothic II... The first one was kinda akward, never managed to force myself to play it through. But the second one was really good, finished it a couple of times. Very entertaining.

I've downloaded the tweak tool for Gothic 3 recently and I experience almost no crashes, only minor lags, heaps better graphics... all together resulting in more fun.

Once Gothic 3 stops crashing it's really fucking cool. Maybe a little TOO big and... unfinished... but still a pile of gold amongst heaps of shit.

Then explain it in detail if all you can give as examples are its predecessors.

Imagine a Fantasy version of Tomb Raider with orcs and heaps of bugs... plus RPG elements. Minus boobs and female protagonist.

You just removed everything that made Tomb Raider Tomb Raider, good job.

Gothic 3 is pretty sweet. It's nothing like revolutionnary, but it's what Oblivion wanted to be, I guess. The graphics are great, of course, and the world is huge.

I like how every quest you get opens a ton more to you. Every quest has its counterpart, and there's no good or evil path.

Anyhow, gottag et back to work, but it's a fun game.
