Broken Hill mutants go nuts

This is about my third full go through Fallout 2 and the first time this has happened to me. I visted Broken Hill, found the bodies, replanted the plant, spoke to Francis etc etc, then caught a few caravans all around the place for a while, NCR and New Reno, went over to Redding to clean out the mines, stopped by The Den to see Fred and then decided, what the hell, it's time I had Marcus with me and went back to Broken Hill.

Decided to fix the mine first, but the moment I stepped foot there, all hell broke loose. Eric, the ungrateful little sod whose air I got turned back on for him, starts shooting me on sight. The five or so mutants outside the mine, and even Zaius, start shooting when I walk into view... and even Marcus turns on me.
And here's the real kicker -- when I told Vic to stay until I return, the moment I exited his dialog screen, HE turns on me too!
Why this has happened is driving me nuts.

There are only two things I can think of: during one caravan drive, I shot up a bunch of attacking mutants; and in Redding I gave the excavatar chip to a mine that might not be in the right political cahoots with Broken Hill. But neither of these things explain Vic. And my status has me as Accepted in Broken Hill!!!
This is driving me crazy!!! Please someone tell me what I did or might have done, so I don't do it again. Thanks very much.

Well they were orphans....

So is that it? Vic and Sulik killed a few kids by accident and no one wants to play any more? Hey that makes Vic pretty hypocritical.

btw I am not listed as a child killer in my stats

Ah bugger... no one sees the light side in infanticide any more (although, again, I point out it was my lackies and not I who indulged).

Thanks Jesus (hey read your book, it was good) and Johnny

The New Testament is less hardcore than the Old Testament, perhaps Jesus came to realise that.

Are you sure this is cos I'm a child killer? It's still not listed in my perks. And just between you and me (polishes fingernails) I have *great* karma.

I have since started a new game from before my boys took out their anti-thievery punishment too far in The Den, but I do wonder how Broken Hill found out when I haven't even made their wanted posters.

I'll have to see if I have any of the old saves left. (The game's at home, unfortunately I'm on the boss's dime right now.) But tell me, what's a beserker??

OK definitely not a Beserker. My rep was so squeaky clean that I couldn't get those dodgy brothers in Klamath to offer me underhanded work. Not a slaver, porn star, grave digger or any of that lot. Maybe I just have bad BO....

Almost glad to hear that -- means I didn't restart my game in vain last night. But hell, not looking forward to re-cleaning out those damn mines!
Thanks Jesus. (Any relation? :giggle: )

Hello! Newb here - please be gentle.

While we're on the subject of infanticide, the Fallout creators obviously did everything in their powere to tempt the player to kill all children in sight - they are so intensely annoying after all, and I don't just mean those pesky pick pockets either :anger: . Not that I would kill them, of course. Not anymore ... causes more trouble than it's worth, he he.

Atwill.

Eh, when I thought the last game with the insane Broken Hill loonies was a bust I started saving over slots ... although being a saviour and all I can see why saving isn't a problem for ya, Big J.

I thought you might be related to the Nazarus clan. So, going home for your birthday? What would you be -- 2030ish this year?

Going on 2032, I think...

I've kind of lost count and don't remember much past...
