The zionists did it. No, really.

Was is the interactive adventure/rpg thingy where you wandered around a dark, abandoned vault or am I thinking of some other website?

I know what you mean. You had like a Pip Boy with vaultnet browser and shit like that. You could log on terminals and do shit.

What happened to it (whatever the name was)?

Ok, it appears I was thinking of Vault52.net. May it rest in peace.

Shit... why is it dead? When it was new I loved it, then I had a break and waited till it's finished. Now it's dead... I waited too long...

Sorry about reviving such an old thread, but I just found this thread through a google search, and decided to add some words to clarify some things:

Vault0.org was a forum for roleplaying, they had their servers rooted quite a few times by some script kiddies, until they decided it was no longer worth reviving the whole thing. Quite a shame.

Vault52.net is indeed dead. Dead as in 'it still lives on my personal servers, but it also suffers from my lack of time to put it back up'. I still plan on restoring the latest version, just for fun, as I don't have time anymore to update it.

Vault52.net has been replaced by Vaultnet.net, which is slowly becoming a massive webbased RPF (where the F stands for Forum). I've talked about it a couple of times, but like I said back then, we prefer a low-profile approach, until it's worth talking about it, rather than going public and make fuzz about things we cannot deliver.

I've always loved role playing as they did over at vault0, but rather than giving participants too much freedom, I preferred strict rules, and some gaming elements. Otoh, the stories that are written by some 'die-hard' rp's, are just amazing. So, I figured: why not combine those two ?

And that's what Vaultnet.net [1] is all about: rules, and writing. The traditional forums have been replaced by locations on a huge map, the rooms have become places [2], and you can travel around on the map. It takes a lot of time to travel from one place to the next (in real time), but it greatly adds to the realism - if there is such a thing. Locations are scattered all over the map (or at least, they will be - right now we're focussing on finishing some small ones as a beta test).

So, to cut a long story short (there's the slightly outdated faq [3]): V52 - dead. Vaultnet.net: under active development, but still alpha (close to beta though). We'll get there, one day.

Cheers,

Phil

Sounds equally as, if not more, bizarro than your previous project. Good luck with it.

Goodness! DU has secured his twisted grip on yet another rpg forum! Is this a DU alt? How much stands between him and the rest of the Nets?!

You probably have levels and radiation on your forums too! AIEE!

When will it end?? How many decent forums will have to suffer at the wrath of unholy admins before we may rejoice?
There are no 'knowns'. There are thing we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say there are things that we now know we don't know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we don't know we don't know. So when we do the best we can and we pull all this information together, and we then say well that's basically what we see as the situation, that is really only the known knowns and the known unknowns. And each year, we discover a few more of those unknown unknowns.

I'll take that as a compliment. Thanks :)

Rather not - at the risk of disappointing a lot of people, because we simply can't provide the resources at the moment to help out starters, and because quite a few things are not considered 'production-ready'. I'll spread the word when we're ready.

Cheers,

Phil

I'm not DU. But yes, we do have radiation and levels - in fact, we use special-compliant characters [1] - but it's not depending on 'post count' or 'number of logins'. It depends on the exp. your character gets from combat, jobs, trading, quests, etc. The 'forum' is just a representation form of the dialogs, events, pages, etc ..

Vaultnet.net is different because you don't make up stories, unlike 'normal' roleplaying forums - things happen to your character (but you have (some) steering), and you translate them in stories. The goal of the project is to get ppl immersed in the fallout universe, and let them create content. The ultimate goal is to bundle these works in a book (or provide a way to let users create and print their own books), and sell this book to pay for the project.

Cheers,

Phil

It was a joke... see this for explanation.

You mean, all the forum posts and discussions are the dialogs of participating game characters? Sounds like a MUD.

Well, that is a laudable goal. Good luck to you.

Why don't you put up a donate-button (maybe it is there, but I did not see one)...? Surely, That would net you some booty.

Also, your "community feeds" sections do not include feeds from DAC?? We do have and RSS feed, you know? Add it.

Cheers!

Aha, apologies - I've been out of the loop for quite some time .. too much work.
Alexander wrote: You mean, all the forum posts and discussions are the dialogs of participating game characters? Sounds like a MUD.
Yeah, I guess one could say so. I haven't participated too much in mud games.
Alexander wrote: Well, that is a laudable goal. Good luck to you.
Thanks. Only doing it because we've been held back another decent Fallout game. And writing is hopefully, a better focus alternative than yet another 3D misfit.
Alexander wrote: Why don't you put up a donate-button (maybe it is there, but I did not see one)...? Surely, That would net you some booty.
No, there is none (yet). Not sure if I'll ever put one up; I'm fortunate to have enough spare money to be able to pay for it atm, so I try not to bug anyone.
Alexander wrote: Also, your "community feeds" sections do not include feeds from DAC?? We do have and RSS feed, you know? Add it.
Actually, DAC has been included in the database for almost a year .. and the feed has broken since about what, 8 months now ?

Cheers :)
