it's downloading right now, 1.17GB for a fucking demo. :?

most likely it will suck (typical EA bastardization of a franchise that once had respectable roots) we already know the cutscenes blow because EA in its infinite wisdom decided not to give Joe Kucan the director's chair, and instead probably hired some NYU grad swell guy who think CSI is the epitomy of modern directing, and the dialogue seems to be written by 15 year old lord of the rings fan fic enthusiasts, that's what the trailer reminded me of anyways. and lets not forget the purple fucking insect aliens with lasers! PEW PEW!! LOL ZERG RUSH. 3D star craft here we cum

i'll be back in an hour :pelvic_thrust:

Early reports say it's pretty goddamn awesome. I'm tempted to try, but I don't have the patience to download right now.

Where are you downloading it from? Every site I go to is shit slow.

i still had a few days left on my fileplanet account before it expired.

it's virtually a 3D starcraft, with full blown cartoony "GI Joe" units, tanks, soldiers. actually GI Joe had some classier looking units than this shit now that i think about it. i skipped the full motion video after the "demo" mission, it was so painfully gay with the news reports... wooooooooooot KANE LULZ :drunk:

there's no multiplayer in the demo, there is a skirmish mode though. which may be a lot better than the horribly retarded demo mission. we'll see... brb

okay, so the skirmish mode turned out to be pretty fun. also, increasing res from 1024x768 to 1280x1024 + just basic anti-aliasing made things look a lot better. only one map to play, and you're forced to play as GDI while the AI can only be Nod. picture playing supreme commander on the smallest map available, and the build order being much faster. i can see skirmish games lasting no more than 30 minutes.

Sounds a lot like the old C&C to me. Cheesy FMVs, fast pace, unrealistic and cartoonish quality... The huge download size is almost too painful for me. There should be a million reliable mirrors in a week, though.

How are the system requirements? What are you running it on?

I read about a nasty bug where the enemy will "stack" buildings on top of yours if you capture or build in their base.

The FMVs during 1995-1996 were far less cheese than the new ones (everything going downhill from RA2), and i really doubt were going to see anything as dramatic as Kane blowing out someones brains in near realistic fashion. And the units back then tried to make some association with real life military hardware (med tank = m1 abrams, light tank = bradley, apache, chinooks, SSMs etc) whereas this incarnation is all about teh futar.

i haven't gotten the stack bug, but that's because i haven't tried to capture anything.

my system: opteron 165 dual core (running at 2.4ghz) 2 gb ram, bfg geforce 7600gt

but i'm sure it'll run okay if you've got atleast 1 gb ram, 2 ghz cpu, and 6600 gt or higher. it looks like its just an upgraded C&C generals engine

and the key to winning the one demo map is to send a couple tanks to the corners of the maps to stop the AI from sending construction vehicles there and expanding

The acting and setting was so bad it felt like I was watching porno. Not necessarily a bad feat.

That applies to RA2, as well. It lacks nudity, though, which makes it more annoying and cheesy than anything.

This has really nothing to do with C&C3 but can anyone suggest a fun strategy game that came out between '06 and 2000? Nothing too complicated. I like my strategy simple and I'm all played out of Company of Heroes.

Try Close Combat if you already haven't.

I have not. It sounds good though.

Which one do you recommend? I think there are five.

3 and onwards. Also, some of the mods are actually better than the default campaigns. The CC3 rerelease is now available in a box.

Close Combat 2 is pretty good, if you want my opinion.

ground control 2 was good. and act of war wasn't bad. supreme commander is great if you can run it, but i wouldn't upgrade just for that game

I found Ground Control 2 to be pretty mediocre. Never played the original. Speaking of GC2, I just found out it was still installed on my drive and dumped it the other day.

It turns out one can play NOD in skirmish by pressing down N when choosing factions.
