Ok..I know most of you guys out there hate consoles with a bloody passion not seen since the Inquisition but, for those of you that can stand them for more than thirty seconds...

Gears of War. Is it worth buying? Is any of the 'hype' I hear around it correct? I know it's not an RPG by any means, but I am curious as to see what the general public (IE, you guys) think about the game, instead of magazine, gaming site, and television shows that may or may not have been paid off.

Third Person shooter with Powerarmors and big guns, one of them has a chainsaw, how innovativ. :chew:

what do you expect?
its the perfect game for americans.

There actually is no power armor, as far as I can recall.

yeah, maybe not the right word, but it looks like... a lil bit
Woot

also, they have some kind of mutants in their game
Ugly ones

the whole world looks a lil bit postapocalyptic too !!
also some of the characters dont fear headshots, it seems.
They R Super Heros!

It IS post apocalyptic. The world ended. Survivors drag out the end.

Story is utterly forgettable. Gameplay is awesome if you're into that sort of chit. :me: I endorse it. Insane mode on co-op was awesome. So few games have co-op these days.

Heard it's supposed to be great.

Too complicated, you can't really show off your hard earned fps skills. But then again it is a console shooter, so what do you expect?

Righto..skipping over most of this as expected..

jet, you seem to have played this. Is it interesting enough to hold the attention span of a four year old crackhead with ADD?

Or is this another example of "run shoot run shoot look matrix!" ?

It has a pretty good defence/cover system.
Play the game and see.

Its an awsome game.

What sucks about it:

1. Where am I?
Terrible level/map design, its true that the maps look amazin' and all that but its very easy to get lost. It feels like the whole game has a inverted fisheye effect.

2. So, why are we fighting here?
The story is great...
But the game (atleast the first hours) tells you NOTHING about the story, you only know that some aliens from undernerth the ground wants all humans dead.
Your only chance to read about the story is on the net.

PS: The chainsaw ROCKS!

The controls are a bit clunky, camera sucks, and friendly AI is terrible. Aside from that it's pretty decent. Rated with PC games I'd give it a C-. For consoles it gets a B.

It doesn't meet the hype it gets but its fun for a bit. Cover system can get old after awhile and there isn't a lot of guns to play with. Also multiplayer is pretty dumb and doesn't feel like the great multiplayer game that people say it is, except for the co-op.

The "bosses" are a fucking joke in design but they aren't really the focus.

I liked the multiplayer, although I only played it 2v2 over a lan thing. Was interesting mainly because my team could only win in close combat, and the other guys could only win in a range fight. The story is horrible, the cover system gets boring, and you'll be wondering wtf your allies are doing.

In multiplayer, GoW's chainsaw is to Halo 2's plasma sword.

If you have XBOX live its a pretty good buy. If not, it's just a rental. But fun as hell, especially in CO-OP. Unless you have no friends.

P.S: The bosses are a complete let-down. In the trailer they show this giant monster coming out of the ground. In the game there is only like one of them and it just stands there while you shoot at it. Talk about hype.

I'll rent it and give it a go, mostly based on the fact that DiMaggio provides the voice of Fenix (Bender's voice-man in a serious game, who'da thunk?).

I just played a bit of Resistance: Fall of Man, and if it can impress me more than that average FPShitter, then, I'll be a happy lass.

It is a good improvement over the run-and-gun circle strafers like Halo. The cover system is integral (try insane). As for holding a four year old crackhead ADD child, I dunno, but I did find it quite enjoyable and do not regret a minute spent.

As I said, find a friend. Co-op is always good. And multiplayer is an absolute blast with a team of friends.

Also, the chainsaw almost made me pee myself.

gears is a pretty decent game in my opinion, but the fucking insane hyping this game has recieved is just sutpendous. people gander at the game, their eyes melt out of their skull, and criticial sence is all but gone..

as mentioned the cover system in the game is pretty nifty and singleplayer is, especially in coop, awesome (although damn short if you ask me)..

the multiplayer on the other hand i found to be rather, well shit really. on short i'd say it's worth buying if you're sold on the multiplayer only..
It's a great game, just not a too hugely big game..

Play the game and see.
Or save the $ and get OperatioFLashpoint for PC.

Older, cheaper price, better quality, and a map editor.
