stumbled across this <a href="http://apolyton.net/civgroups/news.php? ... d=70">CIV4 mod</a>. Not done yet, but I dare say it looks interesting.

Fuck that, I'd say Civ II > any turn-based strategy.Frater Perdurabo wrote:Fuck that, I'd say Civ III + expansions > Civ IV any day.
Perfect balance between simplicity and micromanagement, more dynamic gameflow than in Civ III minus the ugly naïve artwork in Firaxis' post-SMAC games. You can't create a purer formula for addiction than that.
Depends what 'feel' you're into. Without dissing fictional factions, I've always prefered altering world history playing as, say, ze Germans.Mismatch wrote:naah, since SMAC is the best TB strategy evar I must declare you wrong. SMAC has everything civII has, and it's perfected with a 'feel' uncontested in any strategy game.
I know funny choice of words perhaps... I wasn't sure quite how to put it.... it runs through the whole game. Somehow a strategy game with depth and chit. A tad <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJlPr2KH ... calish.</a>Depends what 'feel' you're into.
It has immersion I guess.... or maybe its just me.
SMAC does not only treat our future, it treats our history as well. <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=035cpHEowS4">Where we came from and where we may be heading.</a>
The conflicts in the game (between the factions) are, in fact, mirroring the actual conflicts of our time: Science vs Faith etcetc....
It is our world.. but with <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2L5JgTkxAkg"> mindworms</a>.
And I love the wonder movies.

I really liked civ 1-3, then I discovered SMAC.
I gotta say I like civ's setting better, but SMAC has such a great story! (leaders' portraits are fucking stupid tho).
As regards civ 4, I've only played the demo. I liked how units acquired special abilities with experience. (omg RPG elements lol). But it felt somewhat dumbed down. Was it the graphics / size of units? Can't remember right now.
Anyhow this series is BY FAR the best TB Strategy evAR!

As Blargh would say, I just won a bet!Haris wrote:I loved both civ2 and civ3 but when i bought civ4 i could never go back to civ 2&3. I would just miss the new features like religions, cinematic wonders and great people.

Seems like this mod have moved to <a href="http://forums.civfanatics.com/forumdisp ... anatics</a> and changed its name to planetfall.
I think it's playable by now even though it is yet to be completed. haven't tried it tho'.
