Armed Assult (the semi spinoff / update for OFP)

Post by PsychoSniper »

Has anyone played Armed Assult yet ?

Its an updated version of operation flashpoint, the best infintry sim ever.

I Just orderd it on amazon last nite, lookin foward to it :joy:

And for the click shoot haters, this is more of an infintry sim, as a single round can kill you, or the enemy, thus requiring use of cover and concealment and tactics.

Yeah, its not a full sequel so much as its an updated version of the games engine, as well as updated graphics.

Hmm I guess my Duron800 / 512mb / geforce4mx440 wont handle this baby. Im planning a slight upgrade later this year though.

I liked OFP a lot.

This series is to shooters like Fallout is to RPGs.

More like, "This series is to military sims what Fallout etc.."

I mean, Fallout didn't come along and blow all the other RPGs away with it's incredible realism and that.

Oh, and if you're into that sort of stuff, you should play World War II online (Battleground Europe.)

It's fan-fucking-tastic. The only problem is that they can never quite reach the amount of subscriptions needed for the gameplay to properly take off. It has the entire European theatre, and it would be great if there was fighting going on along the entire front. Unfortunately, due to a lack of players, it's sort of relegated to everyone spawning in only two or three towns along the front.

But yeah, it has everything. It has near perfect trajectory and hit modelling, a 98% accurate flight simulation, and so far is the only game to have part of the engine dedicated to calculating spall(The molten metal that you get when a bullet hits metal).

It has spall ?

HOLY SHIT BATMAN!

THe think that makes OFP so good is its mission editor is built into the game.

Novices can make simple missions, and the more you play around you can make more and better crap.

Plus they released the tools to make new models for the origonal game.

Ive even got a freakin stargate mod on it.

Doesn't seem to be getting very good reviews. It looks like one of those wait-for-a-decent-mod-'til-you-buy games. Not that I could run it, hehe.

You guys checked out Battlefield Apocalypse? Looks pretty :madmax:

Actualy, there are allready mods out for it.

Its just an upgraded version of the origonal operation flashpoint, and many of OFPs thousands of mods are being converted allready (well, the good ones :p )

The thing is, the 'mods' are things like new weapons, new weapons textures, new anything.

The games extremly mod freindly.

As far as a shooter goes, its not as consolefanboi freindly as things like counterstrike, but when it comes to a realistic shooter, its quite good.

Im just waiting to get the tools so i can start mapping again...

The game is nothing without the community, like Ofp was/is.

If I liked BF2 will I like this? I tried the demo awhile ago but I got a graphics glitch that made it so i couldn't see what I was doing. I also rarely ever play mods for any game.

If you count total conversion mods to Operation Flashpoint then there was about 3 of them.

Then there was countless of "Mods" which just compiled addons that someone else had made. These "mods" were shit and was better discribed as Addon packs.

The only thing that has been released now that is of value is the "Crappy zombie mod". The real addons and not just badly ported ones from ofp will appear once the tools is out. And noone knows when the hell they are released.

Check this site out for news, addons, forum etc.

It's cool that you were in the infantry and don't know how to spell infantry.
