Feargus wants to make another Fallout

Post by King of Creation »

[ Company -> Interview ] - More info on Person: Feargus Urquart | More info on Company: Obsidian Entertainment

In a post on the Obsidian forums, Feargus Urquhart commented that he would love to make another Fallout game, and that Obsidian might be toying around with the idea of their own post apocalyptic IP.

As for future titles, I would like us to continue making both Fantasy
games and games placed in other genres - like Post Apocalyptic and
SciFi. A number of us have been toying around with the idea of a Post
Apocalyptic Fantasy world. There are a number of campaign worlds out
there that explore this idea and I think a really cool video/computer
game could be made within a world like that. While we couldn't go with
the campy 50's feel of Fallout (campy as in the Pip Boy look, not campy
as in culture references), I think the tension created by having all
the different fantasy societies trying to scrape by and rebuild would
make for an interesting world to explore. As for a straight SciFi game,
I don't have an real specific ideas about what we might do just yet. I
know a lot of people around here love 40K, so I was thinking of talking
to THQ at some point about whether they would like to a 40K game that
is more RPG than RTS.

Finally, I should probably talk about the twin gorillas in the closet.
I'm sure there's a correct analogy in there somewhere, but that's what
came to mind. Anyway, I'm speaking of the the KotOR3 and Fallout
gorillas. Both of those are games that I and everyone else here at
Obsidian would love to make. I don't know if we will ever get the
chance, but I do continue to talk with LucasArts about what might be
going on with KotOR3. As for Fallout, like I said, I'm not sure if
we'll ever get the chance, but I know that I'd love to make another
Fallout - plus, I think Avellone's already designed the next 12 of them.

Is he referring to the Fallout Bibles or something else?

No, Fallouts, he's joking about how involved MCA is with the Fallouts. Remember, Van Buren's rough design was MCA's, and he always had a lot of ideas about where he thought Fallout should go. So Feargie is joking about how MCA has a whole series of Fallouts in his head (or maybe even written out, who knows?).

God forbid Feargus ever gets his shitty hands on another Fallout game. He butchered FO2 enough as it is. What a hack.

I really enjoyed FO2. If Bethesda's FO3 is up to the standard of FO2, I'd be very happy.

wasn't Troika's PA ip somewhat fantasy Gamma World ish? I wouldn't mind seeing that. Of course for Obsidian it's just an excuse to get their designers back to where they're comfortable, DUNGEON CRAWLING. :drunk:
The answer to your first question is shaddup.

Hey, give the guys at Bethesda a chance too! :eyebrow:

Well, considering the core designers of Fallout left shortly after the release FU and the others did a decent sequel. There's a lot of good, bad and ugly in all sequels, but for many fans Fallout 2 is the dearest mostly because of its enormous replay value.

I haven't played any of obsidians games. I played ALL the old BIS games. Does Obsidian do games as well as the old BIS games like Torment or biowares BG2?

Considering the shit currently on market, I'm lookin for a time travel opportunity to get back to the 90's as soon as possible. Since I wasn't able to find one yet, I'm replaying 10 year old games while cursing the game industry.
Sometimes I feel like Mr.Chance when seeing the new kind of dumbed down console and action RPGs. I'm becoming a grumbling bitter grandpa, who lives in the past millenium and isn't able to see the blessings of modern game evolution.
Sorry, I can't see them because they are non-existent.
