Old gamer, new to Fallout...

I know, I know, I should be drug outside, beaten with a baseball bat full of rusty nails, and then lovingly shot in the skull to end my life.
But, yes, I've never played any Fallout game. I'd always wanted to...I mean I am old enough that I can say I played Zork, Ultima, Bard's Tale, etc...but I never played Fallout. I wanted to, but for some reason I never had the money back then, and always just put it off in recent times.
But, I just bought all 3...Fallout 1 and 2, and Fallout Tactics. I'm a big fan of the genre the game is set in...as if you couldn't tell by my name...and RPG's in general.
I hope the game has aged well, as I have high hopes for enjoying it. Do you have any suggestions for me, as in known bugs still in the system to watch for or avoid? If so, thanks in advance.

DON'T TOUCH TACTICS! Atleast not untill after you have completed the other two, otherwise you are in danger of getting bored of fallout before you even tried it.
Play them in order and with the newest patches, otherwise there is some wierd features (semi bugs and bugs).
Otherwise enjoy, they are great games

Just check you're playing the patched versions, but assuming you've bought a collection that shouldn't be a problem.
You'll probably make some mistakes along the way, but live and learn, eh? Oh, and use more than 1 save slot.

I am literally sick with envy. Imagine playing Fallout 1 and 2 in close succession, with the third installment a mere year or two away.
I hope you rot in hell, sir.
And keep an eye on the kids in the Den.

Don't give Ian a SMG. Seriously. Also, use TeamX's mods, for FO1.

Yes, dont give automatic weapons to helpers, they will shoot you in the back constantly.
Having just played through FO1, 90% of my stimpack intake was from Ian burst firing on me and hitting for insane amounts of damage.
I just couldnt be arsed to take the gun away from him and ended up shooting him after I got power armor and a minigun. Revenge is sweet.

I wouldn't venture any game altering mods for the first playthrough.

They're just improvements, like bugfixes, being able to equip NPCs with armor and to tell Dogmeat to wait. Of course, he could want to feel the "real" Fallout experience.

Beware the shitty inferiority that is FO2. Bad writing, stupid plot, idiotic locales. FO1 I have built a shrine to. FO2 is good for going around and blasting everything in sight, being careful to avoid reading any dialogue that pops up on the screen. Oh, and get the hell out of Arroyo as soon as possible.

Some people have trouble running Fallout games on newer PCs. So be warned! But there are ways to fix that.

The "real" fallout experience is where it's at.
Fallout 1 is by far the better game, enjoy it. Take it slow. Play a few (dozen) times. Enjoy all that there is to enjoy. A few dozen times. Because at the rate the gaming industry is going there won't be a game like it until the wheel of time turns all the way around and this age starts all over again.

If you have problems installing FO1 on your system, check out the technical help forum. Specifically this thread:

Good luck!

I'm an idiot for stating the opinion of many FO1 fans? Fuck off. But I guess you like the gunz and whores and drugz and shitty writing/storyline in FO2 though. Good for you, twat.
