[ Game -> Preview ] - More info on Game: Fallout 3

Well, they preview Fallout 3 in their own way by video-interviewing Gavin "Kathode" Carter! Here are some transcribed highlights:

The map is large chunk of the area around Washington DC, this eastern seaboard kind of United States area.

...

Washington DC itself is probably about a quarter of the map. It's spread out [sic]. It ranges from more suburban type areas on the outside to straight up urban type areas right in the core of DC. Around that is the Captiol Wasteland, which is a large expanse of kind of more open areas with caves, raider camps, all sorts of things like that.

You get experience points from killing enemies, but the majority of [points] come from questing.

And the community has been kind of discouraged by the fact that blowing up Megaton is one of the examples of freedom of gameplay. We all thought that once you blew up Megaton, that was it. Not so:

You play [the Megaton quest] through the "bad" way and blow up the town, you erase everything in Megaton: all the quests that you might have gotten in there are now gone. But it opens up a new area, Ten Penny Tower, that you wouldn't have opened up if you didn't blow up the town. And that place has new quests, it has new items that you wouldn't have gotten.

On the Fallout Community:

Fallout 3 has, you know, a notorious fanbase, we can put it that way. They get kind of a bad rap. These guys have been passionate about the game since, you know, 1998 when Fallout 2 came out. And they kept being promised a new game in the series. And then Fallout Tactics came out, and that's not exactly what they want. And then Brotherhood of Steel came out, and that was definitely not what they were looking for. So, you know, it's been a long time since they've seen one of these games. They've been waiting for it a long time, and they want somebody to come along and do it right. So, you know, our response is basically trying to respect everything that they liked about the old series, while still doing a game that, you know, appeals to modern players.
