Eastern Promises

It's a movie by david cronenberg about the russian mafia with viggo mortesen and naomi watts. It's pretty good, has some cool characters even though the story is a bit meh. You get to see Viggo's penis so Subhuman might want to see it just for that.

Spoilers, beware bitches.
Pretty great, just saw it. Very homoerotic and kind of plays off of the built in homoeroticism of action movies. Also the ending is pretty damned brilliant. I have to disagree about the story being meh, it was meh on purpose so that the plot twist seemed transparent and the audience assumed they knew what was going on, kind of setting them up for the punch in the end. Good shit.

What punch at the end? Also the twist of "lawl i was an undercover cop the whole time" has been way over done the last few years. That was the main part I was saying "meh" at but they didn't really make it much of a deal, it kinda just went on anyways. Sure, I wasn't expecting it but that doesn't really make it any better since the premise has already been done in a few films.

More like the only way I could get the fuck out of Russia is to actually become the crime boss I'm trying to take down. Earlier in the film it was pretty much layed out that as soon as his mission was done he was going back to Russia. Also if you consider the "I came to London for a better life" voice over from the diary during that last scene the sadness on his face makes sense because the only way he could get this new life in England away from the grim realities of Russian life was to maintain that way of life here. THAT punch ending.

It's not meh if it's done with purpose and to effect the overall quality of the story as a whole. The film is one slight of hand trick after another distracting you from the true illusion.

I think it absolutely helps if the premise has been done in other films because that allows the director to play with your expectations and deal with other issues. Just look at The Departed and Inside Man as examples.

I hate inevitable plot twists, and especially the hip and trendy multi-layered stories. The first hour and 30 minutes is usually pure torture and you're thinking what the fuck is going on and when you get to the plot twist, you feel like you don't care anymore. I want to collect all movies with unnecessarily intricate storylines, like Crash and Babel and whatnot, and burn them in a bonfire along with their directors and writers. There. Now I feel better.

Actually, I went past my "omg, Aragorn! He's so hot!" fase four years ago or so. I just though the trailer looked good. Sheesh.

Living off the pus of Pooper's reviews, here's another thrilling review by me for Eastern Promises:
Brutal naked fight scene, but ohterwise it sucks. Don't see it. Maybe rent some time for naked fight scene.

I think it kind of avoided that in that the plot twist in the conventional sense was inconsequential. But yeah, fuck Crash and fuck Babel, pretentious drivel the both of 'em.
