So, I'm cheating on DAC with another forum - some of you might know this, some of you might not. Anyway, doesn't matter. This other forum has it's own radio station, and I have been asked to do a couple of DJ sessions on it, and maybe become a regular, transmitting from mah own laptop, playing the music I listen to myself and doing interludes where I am to moan, groan and generally entertain. My first session should be up sometime this week, once I can get SAMbroadcast and my USB-headset to cooperate.
Anyway! Problem: I have never downloaded music myself. I have, in some way, managed to gather around 1700 music numbers to my computer, but they've all been ripped from CDs, sent via mail and msg-programs from others or copied from harddrives on local networks. Never downloaded by myself. I are teh noob in this, and I need help finding a decent program, which is fast, has a wide range of music to download from and preferably has little or no spyware. I need help in this, DAC! The amount of music I already have is certainly enough to do 3-4 shows, but I do need to increase the variety and so on if I am to become a succesful internet radio DJ.

You could just find a radio station you like and stream it down your own. Why bother with all that work business?

I use teh LimeWire, although I'm on a Mac so spyware isn't an issue. SoulSeek is supposed to be good, too.
Pray tell, where is this other forum?

I am DAC thy forum, Thou shalt have no other forums before me.
Those who commit adultery with another forum shalt be forever banished to RPG Codex.
Seriously though, if you want to download much and fast, BitTorrent would be the best choice. For more obscure music, any direct connect/p2p program could do the trick(whatever you get to work). Or if you prefer to pay for illegal material, check Urizen's thread of rusky mp3 sites.

Since audiogalaxy went down, everything but bit torrents are shite...i reccomend utorr, and no matter what, download peer guardian...saves the computer from lots of nasty shit/being detected...
btw: macs can get spyware, dn't believe the lies.

torrents are definetely the way to go, unless you desperately want to dl individual tracks. dl utorrent, then point your browser to torrentz.com. search for something. click on something (preferably something with a green health bar). keep clicking untill you see a button that says "dl torrent" or the equivalent. choose open. wait. listen.
that other forum you go to, is it the vampire-goth one?
i also sometimes use limewire when i just want one track, but it sucks so i want to try something else. what's good except for soulseek?

thepiratebay.org is wonderful for torrents. also, not sure if you guys have done this, you can choose to skip files of a torrent and only download certain ones..helps a ton.

just use torrentz.com, it shows you results from the pirate bay and a lot of other sites.

fish around for an oink.cd invite. the majority other music torrent sites have rips of dubious quality, though i guess it might not matter since you can't tell the diff with most streaming audio anyway. are you doing cheesy software mixing or anything like that, or just putting a playlist together?
i saw a vampirefreaks.com sticker on the subway today. a sticker! that must mean these vampire freaks are really coming

Okay. I've been hooked up with LimeWire. And I love it, so far. Even some unknown-ish Danish bands are at my disposal now! Awesome.
Anyway. My first DJ session starts in. 20 minutes or so, I think. So. Cross your fingers.
