Duck and Cover

So I used my brain (accidentally... I'm sorry, srsly lol). And came up with something that most definitely already exists, but nonetheless, I need to know more about it.

I have this keyboard with lots of keys I NEVER use.
How can I bind these keys to something else... like, let's say, one button for "

".

Basically a window with a text field where you can insert commands or words would be pretty awesome.
All I need now is someone of you guys who knows how to do this.
Is there any kind of special tools?

P.S.: My ultimate goal would be to assign the zoom controller to control midi functions.
