Sins of a solar empire

Post by POOPERSCOOPER »

Has anyone played it? It's supposed to be good but there is no demo and I don't feel like downloading the whole game just to try it out. Here is a link to the official website;

Hadn't heard about it till now. Seems ok. Kinda like a sandbox RTS or somethin'. Apparently there's no story, just conquering various solar systems, pregen or make-your-owns.

I wasn't impressed with it, seemed rather dull and boring. I might give it another go when I'm bored one day, but it didn't really grab me at all.

It sucks. Very simple economy, diplomacy etc. not a very deep game.

This is what i'm waiting for:

I presume those are minimum requirements, which means you can maybe run the menu screen with that system. Judging from screenshots, the game looks very heavy. Anyway, I'm not buying a new 3d-card just because of a computer game.

If it's made by Paradox, it must be good. If it's produced by them, it's shit.

Sins is the first actual video game to be produced in a while. I've played four or five games of it against 2 and 3 players with various numbers of computer players. Average game is about 2 hours. On the smallest map size.

It motherfucking autosaves multiplayer every 20 minutes. That's how long this game is designed to take.

It's okay. It gets increasingly more lame as you realize that it might as well have been a demo. It's far more "forced to take forever" Warcraft 3 than it is Master of Orion or anything like that.

It's too bad that even the real games are marginal these days.

I mean, who sat down at the sins design table and went "Wouldn't it be cool if we made pirates attacking people all the time a huge part of the game and built it right into the main user interface with as much importance as research and economy? Make sure to click the bribe button up to higher than your opponent even ten minutes and 40 seconds or else the computer is gonna harass you!"

It is very simple, both gameplay wise and graphically. Not bad, just ... average. I haven't played much but it's just too much about combat. Diplomacy and economics are about 10% of the game, the rest is simply expanding first so that you can take resources that they don't have to expand your fleet and eventually conquer everything. It's not bad, I just didn't enjoy it much. And as mentioned, there is no single player campaign at all, if that is good or bad, that's up to you. You can just play single player vs AI in any of the game maps.

I really think it could've been a better game if the combat was more of a Homeworld style, where you could target specific parts of ships to slow them down or weaken them, but it just becomes a slugfest between your capitalships and their capital ships with frigates and fighters and cruisers running around getting stomped.
off topic? OMG YOU'VE BEEN CENSORED... yet you're still posting. MYSTARY!!!!

Anybody else here play Hegemonia: Legions of Iron from a couple years back? I have it, played for a few days, then just lost interest because of how much stuff was going on. It starts feeling like Homeworld, then moves to Civilization in space.
