Personally, I think they couldn't go any better then to get Robert Downey Jr. to play a drunk superhero, but... we'll see. Marvel movies have a bad habit of being put together in a real half-assed fashion, but the trailers, humorous and action-packed, are giving me the impression that it has potential to be good.

Your thoughts?

I agree Robert Downey Jr. is a good choice in any super hero movie but he looks a bit old now. The trailer looks alright, it's just going to depend on how well polished the movie is in the end.

The special effects look pretty shitty, as in the hulk trailer. I just don't think that there is the special effect technology to create worthwhile movies for either of these guys. Batman works because the characters can be created using makeup and costume design. The spiderman movies looked like shit because the technology couldn't handle the characters.

Computer effects-based movies also age very poorly. Even the older pixar movies like Toy Story look pretty dated now. SW Episode I looks like shit now. While the Burton Batmans and the superman movies are classics because they focussed on characters and story and not generated action sequences that "look cool". The marvel movies fail incredibly at really capturing the characters and being mature about it, and they're not going to be remembered a decade from now while the Batman movies will be.

I am still just as stoked about the 2nd Batman as I was a few months ago when I first heard about it

and I agree, make-up stays pretty much the same through the decades, whereas SpecFX don't

Jurassic Park looks VERY hokey by today's standards, and will only look worse as time goes on (Mighty Joe Young, anyone?)

I still like the SW movies though, if only for the uber-nerd factor of lightsabers and force powers. Although, KOTOR 1 and 2 kind of took the edge off for awhile..... :giggle:

The new Batman doesn't look very "batmany" to me without the 24 hour night and 1950's era cars. Tim Burton did it best, but not perfect.

I still indulge in the Adam West nostalgia every time I see him cameo on Family Guy

What. It wasn't bad.

Saw the trailer for this one when I went to see NCFOM. Looks cool, albeit rather cheesy. Black Sabbath and towelheads FTW.

I don't recall the shittiness of the special effekts, but then again, in the big screen anything looks nice.

I like the idea of RD Jr., and the trailer did look cool, but given the recent shitty nature of the Marvel movies (Ghost Rider, Punisher, Daredevil, Elektra, F4 etc.) I don't think much can come of this.

Besides, there's some shit you can get away with in a comic, that just looks retarded when live actors do it.

The other thing is, all those Marvel superhero comics, I unearthed my old collection of X-men etc. They're fucking unreadable drivel.

Punisher by Lion's Gate films WAS the only really good comic book based movie aside from X-men 1 and maybe 2. X-men 3 was crap

The Punisher still sucked. Castle wasn't psycho and badass enough. He tortured some cunt with an ice stick...

Also, I didn't like the beginning at all. They shot him way too many times. A person with such injuries COULD survive, but never regain the fitness and health he had before. Especially when healed by swell guy-hands.

The story was "OK". No less, no more.

It's Frank Castle, man... he's the best there is at what he does.

Naw, seriously, I though the Punisher was one of the more loyal movies to the comic it represented, but even so, the story strayed from its original version. At least they didn't fuck over the image of Frank Castle like they fucked over the image of Venom. Dissappointment of unprecedented proportions.

Who knows? If they make a sequel, maybe they'll bring out Barracuda. That'd be worth 7 bucks.

I honestly think the Dolph Lundgren Punisher movie was better.

Travolta was a horrible choice as the mob boss, he's pretty much horrible for anything. He's laughable. Ha ha. Hahahahaha. See.

Well, he does have his moments, but I will agree with you on the fact that he wasn't the right choice for the role. He's better as a comedic or positive role than as a serious villain.

I red whole the page and thought about all of these movies again. As a average comics collector and as a Marvel lover i can easily say shitty for ALL of these movies. These movies could been made better...

Too many comic readers disregard the fact that movies need to summarize or cut or 'reinvent' something they know to keep it withing the boundaries of a movie that isn't totally laughable.
Most comics that get turned into movies are, in theory, endless. The initial story goes on and on and unfolds more and more until they go broke or get canceled or whatever.
Movies are meant to fill 2 hours and maybe drop a few sequels.
Too many sequels =

So what do you expect? That all the 'good ones' survive and the 'bad ones' go to prison so they can break out for the sequel?
I mean I agree that most comic book based movies are fucking gay.
Comic fans should just turn down their expectations when they watch a comic based movie.
How simple is that?
