I decided that I can't just sit around not being able to use photoshop. Can anyone recommend a good tutorial?

Also, torrent for latest version of shoop? B)

Just get on isohunt to find a good torrent, whatever is most available. As for learning the program I mostly just screwed around myself until I was familiar with it. If you are interested in shooping pictures its really not that hard to do, and to do well is more artistic skill than technical ability.

Just read up on layering and filters and blurs and shit.

Edit: Here! http://isohunt.com/torrent_details/3138 ... ab=summary

Dude, if you are going to learn photoshop you might as well learn how to use the gimp too. It is free and LEGAL.

I've never learned photoshop because it was too complicated. I think in school we worked a bit with like Photoshop 3.0 on some shitty macs and I barely knew how to do anything useful. I tried GIMP before and it was very weird like but if you have experience with painting software you will probably like it.

I wish I could draw like gimpmask.

GIMP isn't pretty enough for my likes. I need bright colors and images to hold my attention.

I tried learning photoshop once and doing it by yourself is a big pain in the ass. You should seriously consider getting classes for it, my brother took a 2 week course on Photoshop (like 2 hours every day), something like almost 10 years ago and he said that even though you need some adapting with the newer versions, it really is worth it. He is very good at Photoshop, but he does use it a lot, so I guess practice makes perfect.

I mostly just fooled around with the program when I got it. There is so much to it. It really isn't difficult to screw around with photos. The program is pretty intuitive. If you are trying anything more advanced I can suggest the Deviantart tutorials. They are user created and there are a tn of them, just do a search.

oh yeah and practice definitely makes perfect. I have found so many techniques for getting a certain result and just forget them because it was just for one picture.

Photoshop is hardly intuitive unless you're fairly well versed in digital imaging and graphics programs. It takes a while to learn all the ins and outs, but once you understand a few key tricks and basic concepts (masking, layering, selection tools, etc.) it becomes easier. Read a tutorial book if you want to learn it fairly quickly and thoroughly, but I also recommend taking some kind of course on it, even if it's just a few night school sessions.

But do fuck around and play with all the tools and features, get a feel for the interface, etc. in the meantime. You don't really need the latest version, either - I still use CS, which I got from LimeWire.

What Subby said, PS isn't intuitive at all. MS Paint is intuitive. I still don't know how to draw even stick figures in PS.

I DLed gimp and it turned out to be a bit of a slut. I can't work with it, because I don't know the terminology and I'm too preoccupied to learn it. I need time. :(

while it's not really 'intuitive' the learning curve is pretty low, especially if you're only going to use it for a narrow set of purposes (which i'm guessing you are). i lied about knowing how to use photoshop and illustrator in order to get a design job, and by the end of a couple weeks i'd mastered both through sheer force of will and fooling around a lot.

if you've already taught yourself a program like FL which is loads more technical surely you're man enough to figure out PS on your own? all the tutorials out there are way too babyish and time consuming to go through and if you do hit a specific problem just google something along the lines of how do i do x in photoshop -- there's a zillion forums out there for that type of thing so you'll always find a result.

also there's no point in learning gimp (afaict)

You need to be pretty familiar with PS to work GIMP anyway as it has even less instruction.
